Steve Sarkisian's agents release response to NFL rumors

Earlier today, NFL insider Dianna Russini released an article in The Athletic covering information around the NFL, ranging from head coaching hires to trade deadline buzz. Russini mentioned Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian near the bottom of the article, saying:

“I’m told that representatives for Texas coach Steve Sarkisian have let NFL decision-makers know that he would be interested in potential head-coaching openings, including the Titans’.”
Currently, the Tennessee Titans are without a head coach, and the former Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator’s name is in the mix.
This spurred discussion throughout the college football world surrounding Sarkisian and the potential of Texas losing its star head coach—and with rumors comes response.
Sarkisian’s agents, Jimmy Sexton and Ed Marynowitz of CAA Football, responded within hours, releasing the following statement:
“Any reports regarding communications on coaching opportunities with NFL teams are patently false and wildly inaccurate. Sark is solely focused on coaching the University of Texas football team.”
Sarkisian’s agents remained firm, with less than three hours separating the tweet and Sarkisian’s Longhorn team kicking off against Mississippi State. The head coach is only focused on the Texas Longhorns, and any reports about Sarkisian looking toward the NFL are false.

This isn’t something new with Sarkisian. He has long been viewed as a head coach with the potential to move to the NFL. He got his first big break from Pete Carroll, a college coach who eventually made the jump to the pros and is currently coaching the Las Vegas Raiders.
Sarkisian also has close relationships with head coaches like Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, and he’s shown his offense can find success in the NFL from his two years with the Falcons from 2017–18. It’s not impossible to picture the Texas head coach commanding an NFL roster, though it has never been publicly reported in the fashion that Russini and The Athletic did this morning.
Sexton and Marynowitz’s statement alleviates some of the noise heading into this Mississippi State matchup, but it seems the pot has already been stirred. Sarkisian will have his focus on Texas this Saturday and for the rest of the season, but these types of reports tend to linger. Not to mention, there are at least two other NFL teams expected to fire their coaches by the end of the season.
For now, Sarkisian has to game plan for a tough road game in Starkville against a much-improved Mississippi State team.
