When the Texas Longhorns host the Texas A&M Aggies for the first time since 2010, it won’t be on Thanksgiving. It won’t be on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, either. The Longhorns will host the Aggies at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 28, the schools announced on Thursday.

This will be the first time the game has been played on the Friday after Thanksgiving since 2007, when Texas A&M defeated the Longhorns in College Station, 38-30. It will be the first Friday after Thanksgiving game between the Aggies and the Longhorns in Austin since 2006, when Stephen McGee rushed for 95 yards and one of A&M’s two scores in a 12-7 win. The rivalry lived on the Friday after Thanksgiving for most of the time it lived in the Big 12 Conference. From 1996 to 2007, each Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown was on Friday.

Other Friday after Thanksgiving battles included 1974 and 1975. The 1941 edition was on the day after Thanksgiving, but Thanksgiving was on a Wednesday that year.

From 2008 to 2011, and in most earlier instances, the game took place on Thanksgiving.

The return to Friday comes after 2024’s edition of the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown took place on Saturday. In front of a raucous crowd at Kyle Field, Quinn Ewers and the Longhorns defeated A&M 17-7 to earn a spot in the SEC Championship game.

The 2025 meeting will be the 120th between the two teams. Texas holds a 77-37-5 advantage in the series and a 46-12-1 lead in Austin.
