The Texas Longhorns are looking to continue a longstanding tradition of putting a player in the MLB Draft, with at least one Longhorn being selected in every single draft since it began in 1965. We will be looking at the Longhorns who will hope to see their names called and the Longhorns that the fans are hoping they will get to see in burnt orange.

The first group to highlight is the group of players that cannot return even if they wanted to. These are the guys that have ran out of eligibility and can no longer participate in college athletics.

Jared Spencer LHP – GONE

Kimble Schuessler 1B – GONE

  • Potential UDFA

Andre Duplantier RHP – GONE

  • Likely UDFA

Will Mercer RHP – GONE

  • Likely UDFA

Next up is the players that are most likely heading to the MLB Draft and signing. Getting any one of these players on the 2026 Texas roster would be massive. Standout high schoolers Gavin Fien and Kayson Cunningham have been consistently mocked in the first round. While Fien has been rising, Cunningham has dipped. That said, Cunningham falling out of the first round wouldn’t guarantee him making it to Texas, but it would significantly alter the odds.

That same thought process could also be applied to Max Belyeu, these are players gone 9 times out of 10.

Gavin Fien 3B (Texas signee)

  • Extremely High Draft Risk, No. 22 MLB.com / No. 31 Baseball America
  • Mock Drafts: No. 15 – BN, No. 15 – ESPN, No. 18 – MLB.com , No. 26 – Baseball America

Kayson Cunningham SS (Texas signee)

  • Extremely High Draft Risk, No. 14 MLB.com / No. 11 Baseball America
  • Mock Drafts: No. 14 – BN, No. 25 – ESPN, No. 21 – MLB.com , No. 18 – Baseball America

Max Belyeu OF (Texas junior)

  • High Draft Risk, No. 34 MLB.com / No. 33 Baseball America
  • Mock Drafts: No. 39 – BN

For Rylan Galvan and Jalin Flores, with the staff adding starter caliber players at both catcher and shortstop, they would need to be open to competition at their positions or open to a change of positions altogether.

Rylan Galvan C (Texas junior)

  • High Draft Risk, No. 176 MLB.com / No. 237 Baseball America

Jalin Flores SS (Texas junior)

  • High Draft Risk, No. 235 MLB.com / No. 255 Baseball America

These next players represent anywhere from a medium to low level of risk of being selected and signing. Many of them are potential impact arms at Texas.

Brett Crossland RHP (Texas signee)

  • No. 96 MLB.com / No. 180 Baseball America

Cooper Rummel RHP (Texas signee)

  • No. 119 Baseball America

Jack McKernan LHP (Texas signee)

  • No. 164 Baseball America

Anthony Pack OF (Texas signee)

  • No. 240 MLB.com / No. 208 Baseball America

The next group in Kaleb Freeman, Grayson Saunier, and Jack Moroknek aren’t likely to sign but still could if they hear the right things from the MLB draft. All three of them are outside of the prospect boards for MLB.com (250) and Baseball America (500). It is likely that Texas could make a return to Austin more desirable than whatever number they are offered in the draft .

Grayson Saunier RHP

Kaleb Freeman OF

Jack Moroknek OF

[Order THE LONGHORN ALPHABET: Your little Longhorns can know about famous plays like Roll Left!]

Texas will have anywhere from 3-5 names called on day one of the MLB draft (July 13th), but the real sweating starts toward the end of the first round to see what this Texas Longhorns fall roster will actually look like. It will be a competitive roster for incoming freshmen to make, and that will only get more competitive if Texas sees some names fall in the draft and elect to make the most of NIL and the opportunity on the 40 Acres.
