Texas Baseball OF Will Gasparino enters transfer portal

After two seasons in Austin, California native Will Gasparino has entered his name into the transfer portal.
Gasparino was a top-50 recruit in the 2023 class, the No. 1 player Texas was able to bring to campus, and the freshman immediately made an impact. The 6’6″ center fielder claimed the spot early and brought fantastic defense alongside a strong bat, hitting .252 with a .795 OPS, including the fourth-most home runs and RBIs on the team.
Heading into 2025, Gasparino possessed immense hype for the Longhorns’ first season under Jim Schlossnagle as well as in the SEC. He started out hot, smoking the baseball during the Shriners College Showdown to begin the year and at one point looked like one of the best bats in the lineup after the Missouri series. Unfortunately for Gasparino, the giant outfielder wasn’t able to put it all together, struggling for the majority of the season after that four-home-run weekend against the Tigers.
Gasparino’s .851 OPS was a strong number throughout the year, but 12 hits and 27 strikeouts in his final 24 games plagued what could have otherwise been seen as a successful season. While he was still a valuable fielder on the defensive side, Gasparino struggled on the base paths, at points being taken out of games for effort issues, and never found the ability to hit a slider on the outside.

With the additions of transfers such as Kaleb Freeman, Aiden Robbins, and Jack Moroknek heading to Austin, an outfield room that already included Jonah Williams, Easton Winfield, and potentially rising freshman Anthony Pack Jr. suddenly became extremely crowded. Gasparino is expected to head back out west for his final two seasons of eligibility.
Gasparino marks the 10th Longhorn transfer this offseason and the second from last year’s starting outfield, as fellow Californian outfielder Tommy Farmer IV hit the portal early in the process. Texas is expected to have to replace six batters from last year’s lineup with the two transfers, a graduating Kimble Schuessler, and potentially three draft picks: Rylan Galvan, Jalin Flores, and Max Belyeu.
