Texas checks in at No. 3 in the AP poll, setting up a top-15 matchup with Oklahoma

Texas was ranked No. 3 in the most recent AP Poll and garnered 10 first-place votes. Oklahoma, the Longhorns’ upcoming opponent, shares an undefeated 5-0 record and was ranked No. 12, setting up the first top-15 matchup between the two schools since 2019.

The first top-15 matchup was in 1947, when the No. 3 Longhorns topped the No. 15 Sooners 34-14. Oklahoma won its first top-15 matchup in 1949 when the No. 3 Sooners defeated No. 12 Texas 20-14.

Texas has won 13 top-15 matchups while Oklahoma has won 18, with all of the contests taking place in Dallas except for the 2018 Big 12 Championship Game in Arlington.

No other Big 12 team was ranked in the AP poll. Kansas State, West Virginia, and Kansas fell out of the poll. Previous Texas opponent Alabama was ranked No. 11

The Longhorns checked in at No. 4 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll, one spot up from last week. Texas also garnered one first-place vote. Oklahoma was No. 12 in the Coaches Poll
