On3’s Charles Power had this to say about the budding superstar from Dallas.
“EDGE Colin Simmons, Texas
Colin Simmons is an impact player and arguably the top pass-rusher on the nation’s No. 1 defense as a true freshman. He has been phenomenal in his first season of college football coming off the edge, notching seven sacks.
And after Dylan Stewart is the clear No. 2 pass-rusher among true freshmen. Simmons’ first-step quickness and ability to create constant disruption in the backfield really stands out for such a young player, helping get him onto this year’s All-American list.”
Simmons and the Longhorns have a big rematch on Saturday as they take on the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game from Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Kickoff is set for 3:00pm (CT).

On3 Personal Life
Duncanville coach Reginald Samples has built one of the top football factories in the country, and he annually sends a long list of players to the next level. So, it speaks volumes when he gushes about Colin Simmons. “He’s quick off the ball like EDGE rushers have to be,” Samples said. “He is relentless. He doesn’t give up. People know that he has a lot of sacks. He’s very disruptive, and he continues to do it game after game.” That included in 2022 when he set the Texas UIL state sack record and captured defensive MVP honors in the state title game against Galena Park North Shore. “I’m the heart of the defense, if I’m not sparking them up no one does,” Simmons said.
