There have been a number of firsts on the recruiting trail at Texas under Steve Sarkisian.

The first Manning to sign with Texas, the first top ranked running back in the country out of Florida to sign with Texas, and more.

Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Central, there was another first. Texas went into Alabama Crimson Tide and SEC hotbed area of Mobile, Ala. and picked up a commitment from 2025 ultra talented quarterback K.J. Lacey.

The Mobile area has produced some of the top talent in the state of Alabama over the years, including JaMarcus Russell (LSU), Julio Jones (Alabama), CJ Mosley (Alabama), TJ Yeldon (Alabama), Mark Barron (Alabama), Chris Samuels (Alabama), DJ Fluker (Alabama), Nick Fairley (Auburn), Ryan Anderson (Alabama), Rodney Hudson (Florida State), Pat White (West Virginia) and AJ McCarron (Alabama).

A college you didn’t previously see on the list is the Texas Longhorns. But now you do with the commitment of the No. 80 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking in the 2025 cycle. The No. 5 ranked signal caller in the class picked Texas over Power 5 offers from Alabama, Ole Miss, Auburn, Tennessee, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Oregon, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, TCU, Florida State, Miami, Louisville, Colorado, West Virginia, UCF, Virginia Tech, Michigan State and Georgia Tech.

The near 6-foot-1, 180-pound playmaking quarterback transferred to Saraland High from Daphne High after his freshman year. And all Lacey did was help lead Saraland High to the 6A state title and 14-1 record against a very tough Region 1 schedule.

Inside Texas dives into Lacey’s sophomore season with a look game-by-game statistically.
