Just five more weeks…

Texas is officially under 40 days from a clash of titans, where the Longhorns will try to enact revenge against defending national champions Ohio State. With Lee Corso’s final College Gameday in Columbus for a potential 1 vs 2 matchup, the days can’t go by any faster. In preparation, we’re checking in on every Longhorn grouped by jersey number.

Here’s Nos. 44-40

No. 39 – Hamilton McMartin

The senior wide receiver from Katy, Texas, has been a walk-on all four years of his Longhorn career. He’s appeared in one career game, last season against ULM. McMartin was a defensive back on a championship Katy team in 2020, but is listed as a WR for Texas.

No. 38 – Remy Patson

Another senior walk-on receiver, Patson is an Austin native who has also seen action in one game of his career, playing a snap against ULM. He is also a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

No. 38 – Graham Gillespie

While also a senior walk-on, Gillespie has made multiple appearances in his time at Texas. Gillespie played in four games last year, breaking double-digit snaps against UTSA in Week 3. Gillespie recorded his first and only career tackle against Colorado State in Week 1. With Jelani McDonald likely moving to STAR and Zelus Hicks likely redshirting, Gillespie may be the sixth or seventh name on the safety depth chart in 2025.

No. 37 – Jonathan Cunningham

Cunningham is a true freshman three-star linebacker recruit from North Crowley in Fort Worth, Texas. Cunningham was one of two linebackers added to the class of 2025, but will begin his career as a STAR defensive back thanks to his leaner frame. Cunningham is set to be an extremely versatile part of this defense running forward and a key contributor in special teams.

No. 36 – Quinn Merritt

Yes, there’s still a Quinn on the roster. Merritt is yet another senior walk-on receiver who saw action against ULM last year. Like Patson, the California native is a two-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

No. 35 – McCoy Bruce

Not to be confused with former five-star Bru McCoy, Bruce is a redshirt freshman preferred walk-on defensive back who did not see game action in 2024.

No. 35 – Rett Andersen

Andersen is a rising junior walk-on receiver from San Antonio, Texas. As a sophomore, Anderson appeared in games against UTSA and ULM, playing in 10 total snaps. He is likely Texas’ best walk-on receiver and is around the 10th or 11th-choice WR on the team.
