Texas linebacker Marshall Landwehr placed on scholarship with Glen Powell helping to deliver the message

The only two players remaining in the program from the 2021 Texas Longhorns that went 5-7 are Michael Taaffe and Marshall Landwehr. Taaffe was placed on scholarship just before the 2022 Alamo Bowl. On Tuesday, Landwehr received the same distinction.
Huge Longhorns fan, Texas alum, and Hollywood star Glen Powell helped deliver the message.

âMarshall, your hard work has not gone unnoticed,â Powell said. âThatâs why Texas is rewarding you with a scholarshipâ
And the crowd went wild, as you can see in the video above.
âWe talk about how everyone in this room has a role in this organization, this is the epitome of that,â head coach Steve Sarkisian said. âI couldnât be more fired up for you man. Congratulations.â
Landwehr gave a customary speech.
âYâall are the biggest reason why I show up every day,â Landwehr said. âBeen doing this for five years. It doesnât get old. Keep working. This is the dream.â
Texas is now at 85 scholarship players.
Landwehr has been a part of Texasâ special teams over the last few seasons, mainly factoring in on punt and kickoff. He recorded six tackles and four came on special teams.

Just two players remain from Steve Sarkisianâs first season
Both are now former walk-ons.
Landwehr and Taaffe represent the last vestige of a Texas program that Sarkisian hopes is in the past. Because of how the walk-on system works, Sarkisian did pick Taaffe and Landwehr to join Texasâ walk-on corps. But at the same time, they represent just how far Texas has come.
Those two players were hoping to bring Texas back to prominence. The rest of the roster? They joined mostly to keep Texas at the highest level of the sport.
When Taaffe and Landwehr move on, itâll mark the end of an era of Texas football. Their presence though functions as the last bridge to a time the Longhorns view as in the distant past.
