After extending an offer last week to 6-foot-5, 230-pound EDGE Zahir Mathis, the Texas Longhorns made the cut for the 2025 Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep Institute On3 four-star on Tuesday. Mathis released his top five and the Horns are joined by Ohio State, Florida State, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

Mathis holds double-digit offers from programs like Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Michigan State, Texas A&M and others.

Among his five finalists, the pass-rush specialist took June unofficial visits to Ohio State, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

The Pennsylvania native has seen his stock soar as he’s close to being in the top 50 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking. He was part of On3’s 2025 Prospect Watch List released in August 2022.

Texas has commitments from two EDGE prospects in the Class of 2024: Duncanville (Texas) Colin Simmons and Allen (Texas) Zina Umeozulu. With its No. 7 ranking, Texas is in prime position for a number of 2025 recruits.

Mathis is the No. 54 overall prospect and No. 5 EDGE in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania.

On3 ranks Mathis as the No. 69 overall prospect, the No. 5 EDGE, and the No. 2 player in Pennsylvania.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), Penn State was the early favorite as the in-state program. Penn State, however, did not make the top five. The Nittany Lions had Mathis on campus for an unofficial in April. The Buckeyes and South Carolina have the next two highest RPM odds.

Mathis has an On3 NIL Valuation of $71K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
