Despite spending Week 5 relaxing on a bye week, the Texas Longhorns have moved up to the No. 9 team in the nation in the Week 6 AP Poll. The Longhorns jumped formerly No. 4 LSU, No. 5 Georgia and No. 8 Florida State, who all lost this weekend.

The Longhorns did not receive a first-place vote in this week’s poll after receiving the majority in the preseason. No. 1 Ohio State received 46 first-place votes, No. 2 Oregon received 16 and No. 3 Miami received four.

Week 6 marks the beginning of SEC play for Texas, and the Longhorns have multiple highly ranked opponents left on their schedule.  Their first SEC matchup of the year will be at Florida, which sits at 1-3 following a bye. They did not receive any votes in this week’s poll.

The Longhorns will then face No. 5 Oklahoma a week later in the Red River Rivalry, which may set up as a top-10 matchup in Dallas.

Alabama and Texas A&M also find themselves in the top 10, with the Crimson Tide jumping seven spots to No. 10 after beating Georgia last night. Texas A&M now sits at No. 6 after a win against Auburn

The Top 25 includes several other SEC teams, including a run of No. 4 Ole Miss, No. 12 Georgia, No. 13 LSU, No. 15 Tennessee, No. 16 Vanderbilt and No. 19 Missouri.  Future Texas opponent Mississippi State barely missed the top-25, receiving the 28th most voter points.

Texas was ranked as the No. 7 team in the coaches poll, the same position as last week.
