Texas Prioritizes Size and Skill in Latest 2027 Defensive Back Offers

Texas defensive backs coach Mark Orphey continues to make noise on the recruiting trail, extending offers to several rising 2027 defensive backs who have begun turning heads nationally. The latest wave of offers shows a clear preference for size, versatility, and coverage range — hallmarks of the prototype Orphey seeks in the Texas secondary.
Gabriel Osborne Jr. — Mustang (OK)
The first offer went to Gabriel Osborne Jr., a 6’3”, 180-pound defensive back out of Mustang High School in Oklahoma City. Osborne already holds offers from Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Miami, LSU, and others. He’s currently ranked the No. 32 cornerback in the 2027 class and stands out for his combination of length, balance, and polished footwork. Osborne plays with confidence in press coverage and transitions fluidly through his breaks — traits that fit perfectly within Texas’ defensive system.
Blake Jenkins — Katy (TX) Tompkins
Next up is Blake Jenkins, a 6’1”, 185-pound cornerback from Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas. Jenkins already owns offers from SMU, Oregon, TCU, Arkansas, and North Carolina. Before receiving his Texas offer, he wasn’t ranked, but that status won’t last long. His tape shows a natural athlete who can play both off-man and press coverage while showing strong recovery speed. Jenkins’ length and instincts make him a fit for the type of defensive versatility Coach Orphey values.

Aamaury Fountain — Northside (GA)
The third offer went to Aamaury Fountain, a 6’3”, 182-pound defensive back out of Northside High School. Fountain’s recruiting profile has exploded with offers from Georgia Tech, Georgia, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Auburn, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Clemson, and more. His frame, stride length, and ability to flip his hips make him an ideal candidate for both field and boundary duties. Fountain’s athletic profile mirrors the modern prototype for the position — tall, rangy, and physical.
Texas’ Recruiting Focus
It’s clear that Coach Orphey has a type. The trio of Osborne, Jenkins, and Fountain all bring length, athleticism, and fluidity — exactly the attributes Texas has prioritized in its 2026 secondary class. As these players continue to rise, expect the Longhorns to remain heavily involved as relationships deepen throughout the cycle.
We’ll have more from these guys soon.
