Prior to the season, Bouwmeester was tabbed to the Ray Guy Award preseason watch list for the second-consecutive year and was named a semifinalist for the award in 2023. He was also named preseason Second-Team All-SEC by the league’s coaches in August.
The senior punter from Bendigo, Australia, punted four times vs. the Miners, averaging 47.8 yards per punt and connecting on a season-long 58-yard punt. Bouwmeester’s 58-yard punt was the longest by a Longhorns punter since Ryan Sanborn had a 64-yard punt vs. BYU on Oct. 28, 2023. Additionally, Bouwmeester pinned UTEP inside the 20-yard line once on Saturday. In his first punt of the day in the second quarter, Bouwmeester booted a 48-yard punt to the UTEP14. Bouwmeester then boomed a 58-yard punt that was fair caught at the UTEP22 in the second quarter. On his final punt of the game in the fourth quarter, Bouwmeester kicked a 44-yard punt to the UTEP22, which was returned for one yard. UTEP totaled just five punt return yards across four Texas punts.
Bouwmeester also serves as Texas’ primary holder and helped kicker Mason Shipley make two field goal from 30 and 31 yards out in the third quarter vs. the Miners. Shipley is 3-for-3 on field goal attempts this season.
