Following Texas’ 14-7 loss to Ohio State this Saturday, the Longhorns have dropped six spots to No. 7 in the Week 2 AP Poll. Texas drops from the preseason No. 1 spot, now being held by the Buckeyes, who jump from No. 3 to No. 1.

The Longhorns did not receive a first-place vote in this week’s poll after receiving the majority in the preseason. Ohio State led with 55, while Penn State had seven and LSU had three. Oregon also received one.

Looking ahead, Texas will face some of the top teams in the nation. Their first SEC matchup of the year will be at Florida, now ranked No. 13. The Longhorns will then face No. 18 Oklahoma a week later in the Red River Rivalry.

Georgia and Texas A&M also find themselves in the top 25, with the Bulldogs surging back into the top four after a blowout win against Marshall last week. The Aggies sit at No. 19 with 12 weeks separating their matchup against the Longhorns.

The Top 25 includes a number of other SEC teams, including LSU, which jumped from No. 9 to No. 3 after a big win at Clemson. South Carolina found their way into the top 10 after a win against Virginia Tech, Ole Miss sits at No. 20, Alabama falls all the way from No. 8 to No. 21, and Tennessee fills out the five-team run at No. 22. Auburn received the second-most votes outside of the top 25.

Texas was also ranked as the No. 6 team in the coaches poll, dropping five spots from its No. 1 preseason ranking.
