After a frustrating career at the University of Texas, sophomore running back Jerrick Gibson has left the program. This comes just days after after he received one carry for -3 yards against rival Oklahoma in Texas’ 23-6 victory.

This move allows him to preserve his redshirt for his next stop.

For the season he accumulated 152 yards and one touchdown on 37 carries. This came after what was at times a promising freshman year where he had 377 yards and four touchdowns on 78 carries.

Snaps were hard to come by with the return of Tre Wisner and emergence of James Simon and Christian Clark as competing options. Though he was highly ranked in the 2024 class, and heavily prioritized by former Texas running backs coach, Tashard Choice, Gibson was unable to find solid footing on Austin, with fumbles being a primary issue.

At 4-2, and CJ Baxter still ailing and missing practice, the Horns will have a three man rotation between Wisner, Clark, and Simon.

Justin Wells helped confirm.
