The game has slowed down for Parker Livingstone. It needs to slow down for more Longhorns.

In the leadup to the season, the Texas Longhorns were described as “hungry.” That typically means that players who hadn’t had many opportunities before this year were excited to take advantage of the chance to see extended playing time.

By the same token, that means there was something preventing those players from seeing the field. Maybe there was an experienced senior starting for the third straight season. Maybe there was an injury. Maybe there was something else.

That’s forced players to acclimate quickly to live college football, first quarter football. Some have had success with that process, namely Parker Livingstone.

This season, after not recording any stats last year, Livingstone has eight catches for 198 yards and three scores. For a player seeing extended action for the first time, Livingstone plays like a vet.

What has surprised him about the college game considering he’s been so successful?

“Honestly, how slow the game is,” Livingstone said Monday. “In practice, we like to have fast-paced practices. When I get out there, it just slows down. Which has been pretty awesome, actually, to see everything unfold, the defense.”

Other players have seen the game slow down unfold as well, including tight ends Nick Townsend and Emaree Winston, wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon, defensive back Graceson Littleton, and running back James Simon.

They need more to join their company, namely the Texas O-line and quarterback Arch Manning.

If the team is “hungry,” then the desire to improve and see the game slow down should be ubiquitous in the Longhorn locker room. And even though the game is slow for Livingstone, there’s more room to grow for him as well.

“There are still a lot of things we have to improve on as a team,” Livingstone said. “I’ve got a lot of things I need to improve on to to help the team be more explosive and be better.”

If more people have the game slow down for them, then Texas can expect more players to put on performances like the ones Livingstone has so far this year.
