The Ringer’s Todd McShay took in the sights and sounds of the Manning Passing Academy in Thibodaux, La. this past weekend. I thought he had some interesting notes on Arch Manning, the Manning family and some of the other quarterbacks in attendance.

On Arch Manning:

-McShay mentioned Arch is as comfortable in his own skin as any 21 year old he has ever been around. It’s obvious why he’s such a magnetic personality and leader wherever he goes. Obviously the Manning Passing Academy is a super comfortable environment for Arch since he’s been attending it his entire life. He credited Arch’s laid back nature to his father Cooper Manning, who he said is by far the funniest of the entire group. A reminder Peyton and Eli have both hosted Saturday Night Live before. Don’t sleep on Mrs. Ellen though, some of Arch’s athleticism comes from the fact she was a track star.

-On the field, McShay mentioned once again all of Arch’s tools: the athleticism, ability to drive the ball, vision, etc. He did say he wasn’t as consistent as the top performers like Clemson’s Cade Klubnik or LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier. That’s to be expected from someone who hasn’t yet started a full college season.

-Regarding the 2026 draft, McShay had an interesting note. He still believes Arch will follow the Manning path and prioritize development in college. After all, Eli Manning shockingly stayed five years at Ole Miss. The Mannings don’t skip steps. But, he did converse with a few people who brought up how tough it is to be a normal person in Austin for the young quarterback. Arch has a tough time going to a convenient store without being swarmed. Part of the reason Arch chose Texas was because he would’ve enjoyed being a college student here if he wasn’t an athlete. Hopefully the ever increasing spotlight and success doesn’t change that.

-A sidenote, McShay said Klubnik is putting it all together now. In a way, Texas fans should root for the Austin native to have an incredible season and emerge as a consensus number one pick in next year’s draft. Make it a little easier for Arch to run it back in Austin once more.
