They'll find you: A few Longhorns are suiting up in the CFL
Steve Sarkisian and Jackson Jeffcoat could tell you that the Canadian Football League plays serious ball. Though players dream of making the NFL, opportunities to make money playing the game they love exist all over the world, including north of the border.

A few Longhorns are in the midst of the CFL regular season. The CFL playoffs are set to begin November 1. Here are a few former Horns making it happen in Canada.
BC Lions
- Former Longhorn Devin Richardson is on the Lions’ practice squad. After transferring to Texas from New Mexico State ahead of the 2021 season, Richardson totaled 15 tackles and 1.5 TFL in 2021 and 2022 for Texas. At Washington State in 2023, he totaled 62 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 1.0 sack, and a forced fumble.
Edmonton Elks
- None
Calgary Stampeders
- Morice Blackwell Jr. is with the Stampeders and is a key part of Calgary’s special teams, just like he was at Texas. Blackwell played in 36 games with five starts as a Longhorn, recording 65 tackles, 4.0 TFL, a forced fumble, and a blocked kick.
- One-time Longhorn Byron Vaughns is with Blackwell in Calgary. Vaughns started his career at Texas, transferred to Utah State, and returned home to Baylor for his final hurrah in college football. He had 14 career tackles at Texas.
- Gary Johnson is on Calgary’s six-game injured list. A junior college transfer, Johnson was a key part of Texas’ 2017 and 2018 defenses.
