Three 'nicked up' in Texas' scrimmage, but Steve Sarkisian 'confident those guys will all be okay'

Texas had three players get nicked up in Saturday’s scrimmage but Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian emphasized that if it were a real game instead of a training session, each would have been able to return to action.

“I feel confident those guys will all be okay,” Sarkisian said.
LT Trevor Goosby, RB Quintrevion Wisner, and DB Jelani McDonald all left today’s scrimmage at a certain point and did not return, according to Sarkisian.
Sarkisian was conscious of his word choice, identifying these injuries as the players getting “nicked up.”
While seeing and hearing those three names may have put some fans into shock, especially given the health of the offensive tackle and running back rooms, it seemed as if Sarkisian was confident in the health of all three going forward.
Sarkisian used this as a chance to also underscore an important development of the fall camp.
“I feel good about the fact that last week, we had just around about 150 plays in a scrimmage, and today, that number might have been a little lower than that, maybe about 135. You’re running 280 plays in scrimmage football and then not to come out of it with any real catastrophic injuries. That’s, knock on wood, that’s good for us,” Sarkisian said.

At this point last season, Texas had received the unfortunate news about the season-ending injuries to running backs CJ Baxter and Christian Clark. So far, the team has only seen a major injury to backup tackle Andre Cojoe, whose torn ACL will keep him out for the season.
Sarkisian pointed out multiple players that played well at practice in the three positions but specifically highlighted backup OT Jaydon Chatman in relief of Goosby.
“Jaydon stepped in, I thought he did a nice job. That’s a tall task against our guys,” Sarkisian said. “I think that’s one of the values of competing on our field every single day. Okay, you want to step in and play left tackle? You block Colin (Simmons), Ethan (Burke), Zina (Umeozulu), (Colton) Vasek, Brad Spence, Lance Jackson. And so you don’t get a break. And so for him to get that exposure, I think was good for him today.”

Texas is mostly avoiding the injury bug for now, but depth is already being tested exactly two weeks out from week one in Columbus.
