Tuesday Q&A: Questions on Arch, the O-line, Manning, O-line, and the offense

I wasn’t looking forward to this one after the miserable offensive performance against UTEP this past Saturday. UTEP actually out-gained Texas when it came to yards per play, which is saying something because Texas has a very good defense and UTEP’s offense, is, well, UTEP’s.
After 7 pages of questions I’d love to say we solved all of Texas’ ills but Arch Manning‘s issues are largely, though not entirely, between his ears and what troubles the offensive line likely can’t be cured in-season. That doesn’t mean there isn’t reason to hope for improvement. The offense can focus on a couple of main characteristics to create an identity with the recent game offering insight—more gap schemes and more of Manning using his legs. He still has to figure out how to hit open receivers, though, or nothing else will matter.
A number of questions highlight fan angst. How tied to Kyle Flood is Steve Sarkisian? That question was asked numerous times but is wholly irrelevant on September 16. Also, how much rope does Arch have? Outside of potentially sitting for a series or two to get right, like Quinn Ewers against Georgia, Manning is Texas’ quarterback. He’s not the first Manning to struggle.

A number of questions focused on individual players, such as those injured and guys like Justus Terry and Ryan Wingo. The running back rotation remained a hot topic yet again. James Simon showed ability in his debut this past Saturday. The more comfort he gains in the run schemes the more he’ll play.
