Wednesday Texas Q&A: Arch in Columbus, Arch Going Forward, O-Line

Arch Manning (Will Gallagher/Inside Texas)

Arch Manning’s struggles were one of the biggest topics of the Week 1 college football slate. Part of the reason is because Texas found itself in such a high profile opener, which is also part of the reason he struggled. My opinion isn’t he struggled because Matt Patricia somehow reinvented defensive football like much of the national media would have you believe, but rather, because Manning was needlessly hurrying himself like many inexperienced starters before him. This led to mechanical failure on a number of throws as well as being to impatient to find his second progression.

Will he be okay? Earlier this morning IT dropped the latest team intel with internal thoughts on Manning. He’s going to be just fine—more than fine. Don’t believe me, take a look at some of the “good” from Saturday.

Beyond the topic of QB, questions centered on offensive line play. Was it as good as the raw statistics showed? Was it as bad as some play breakdowns revealed? It was somewhere in the middle. But, pass pro was good and the run game was good enough to build on.

Should Sark have taken the field goals rather than twice going for it on 4th? Texas was going to have to score a touchdown no matter what and they weren’t going to get closer than being half a yard away.

These topics and many more are discussed.
