Steve Sarkisian: “Exciting time for us. Obviously our SEC opener. I know a lot of other teams around the conference have kicked off conference play. There are some teams that are three games into conference play. Finally get an opportunity to play an SEC game and an SEC opponent.”

Sarkisian on Arch Manning: “I think one of the things we’ve been harping on here is that as much as the attention swirls around him, he doesn’t have to play to that attention whether it’s positive, negative, whatever it may be. Focus on you, his teammates, focus on what he needs to do to prepare, focus on having some fun playing football. That’s when he’s at his best, and I think in the end that’ll serve as a real positive for him.”

Steve Sarkisian looking back on his experience as a QB going from JUCO to BYU, jokes about USA Today writing an article about him and appearing on the cover of TV Guide: “I was an emotional player. I did definitely show and exuded a lot of emotion. When I didn’t, that was probably out of the norm and out of character. That can probably be said for Arch that way. He’s got a lot of emotion inside of him that I definitely don’t want bottled up, so we’ve got to allow him to be who he is.”

Sarkisian on QB, answering a line of questioning from a Florida outlet surrounding DJ Lagway: “It’s a developmental position first of all. Sometimes natural ability and talent can mask areas where maybe you need to continue to develop, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes you get exposed.”

Sarkisian on Sam Pittman, question asked from an Arkansas outlet: “I’ve got a ton of respect for Sam Pittman.” — Sarkisian mentions “this conference is really hard and it’s really difficult.”

Sarkisian on Florida’s defense, specifically the linebackers: “It starts with Ron Roberts… They play together really well. They’ve got a very stout defensive front that allows them to play a lot of split safety defense. Coordinating that front with the back end puts a lot of pressure on the two LBs. Their ability to play the run and the pass is probably what makes them special.”
