What Texas players said after the No.5 Longhorns' 27-24 win over No. 25 Vanderbilt

Texas passed its first true SEC road test knocking down Vanderbilt, 27-24, at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville on Saturday night. But it sure wasn’t pretty.

Quinn Ewers’ first pass was an INT, then he hit 18 straight. Then the second half was a roller coaster. Jaydon Blue flashed, while Tre Wisner slashed. Anthony Hill Jr. played incredible. The defensive line held up.

The Horns were plentiful in Nashville this weekend, but so were Diego Pavia’s heroics and OL penalties. There’s a lot of work for the bye week. A lot.

Here’s what the players said following UT’s third ranked win of 2024, tied with Oregon for the most.

Quinn Ewers, QB

On the two tipped-ball interceptions that led to 14 Vanderbilt points:

“I mean, at the position that I play, you’ve got to be able to wipe those type of things off. For the most part, they’re out of your control.”

Michael Taaffe, S

On the Texas fans everywhere in the crowd in Nashville:

“I’m so proud of Longhorn Nation. I appreciate all y’all. If y’all are listening, keep showing up. It makes a huge difference for us.”

Jake Majors, OL

On the burnt orange fans throughout the stadium in Nashville:

“It’s just awesome to see that no matter where we travel, we have a sea of burnt orange wherever we go. This talks about what this team means for people who are fans of us, but also being able to lean on them whenever we needed them most. It really felt like a home game.”

On coming away with UT’s first true SEC road win:

“It wasn’t pretty by any means. But I’m just glad that we came here, we won, we took over and we’re going home with a win.”
