Why four-star shooting guard Bo Ogden chose Texas

Just like that, Texas basketball has received its first commitment of the 2026 class in shooting guard Bo Ogden.

Ogden, the son of Texas basketball GM Chris Ogden, is a top-40 player in the class of 2026 and is seen as one of the best pure shooters in the class.
Despite his father’s connections to the program, Ogden says that the reason he inevitably chose the Horns was his relationship with new Texas head coach Sean Miller.
“Definitely, I’d say Coach Miller has been amazing. I love how he teaches as a coach. I love what he’s done, and I love his play style,” Ogden said. “Coach Miller was ultimately the deciding factor.”
Texas was one of three finalists for Ogden, with Miller being pitted against well-regarded coaches Rick Barnes and Matt Painter at Tennessee and Purdue. Despite the long-term success of both opposing coaches, having each reached a Final Four in their careers, Ogden’s relationship with Miller is what pushed his commitment over the edge.
“I mean, I grew up a Texas fan, but I’d say with my dad being a coach and going to so many different places, it was almost like I cheered for so many different places and I hated so many others, that it was like I never had a dream school growing up,” Ogden said. “So I was obviously always a Longhorn fan. But I wouldn’t say I grew up with a dream school.”
Ogden says that he loved the practices he saw, having visited the Longhorns last weekend on an official visit. Miller’s style of coaching and his teaching methods most struck the young wing.

The Austin Westlake product fits right into Miller’s system. A tall guard with elite shooting skills, his high effort and smooth stroke work well in an offense that prioritizes fast breaks and consistent movement in the half-court to find open shooters.
Ogden knew what he wanted in a program, and the challenge of returning Texas to the NCAA Tournament was a big motivator for the Austin native. Funnily enough, with the recruitment going down to the wire, Bo claims his father was not a major decider in this commitment.
“I don’t know if we’ve talked about it yet. We kept him in the dark about the decision. He didn’t even know until this morning,” Ogden said.
Another Ogden has been added to the Texas basketball program, and this one is expected to make a big splash as soon as he steps onto the court in 2026.
