WeAreSC On3 is a daily three-point briefing recapping news and notes surrounding USC Athletics. Today, we take a look at USC announcing another transfer addition, inside a 2024 4-star’s top schools, and the massive ripple effect of the Lincoln Riley hire on college football.

Jacobe Covington Announced

The newest transfer portal addition for the Trojans was officially announced by the school on Tuesday. Former Washington defensive back Jacobe Covington announced his commitment to USC this past Friday.

On Tuesday, USC officially announced Covington as the newest member of the Trojans. He’s the 17th player to join the Trojans out of the transfer portal this offseason.

2024 OL Talks Favorites

The transfer portal is potentially making “must-get” recruits a thing of the past as there is seemingly always a way to fill gaps and make up for recruiting misses now. But when elite offensive linemen pop up in Southern California, they’re as “must-get” as it gets for the USC Trojans.

One of those top targets will be 2024 offensive lineman DeAndre Carter, the No. 105 overall prospect in the 2024 On3 Consensus.

Carter spoke this week about his top three schools and USC fans will want to hear what he had to say.

Riley ripple effect

On Monday, The Athletic published a story on the ripple effect of USC’s hire of Lincoln Riley.

It’s an interesting look at how many jobs ultimately changed hands when USC made the decision to let go of Clay Helton following the loss to Stanford in Week 2 of the 2021 season. They counted more than 250 changes made due to that decision, and that number is still rising.

However it all shakes out, USC fans will be happy with the those who wind up wearing Cardinal and Gold this season.
