Pitino, the veteran rule breaker, will some day get his ultimate comeupance. But in the meantime he's helping to destroy college basketball and St. John's, who have sold their institutional soul to the devil in order to win championships.
You realize we took a G-leaguer and have a 5th year guy as well, right?Pitino, the veteran rule breaker, will some day get his ultimate comeupance. At this point it seems like to best path forward is push the limits and allow the courts to decide. A coach should find a gray area and try to succeed. Anyone who isn’t doing that can not succeed in this environment. You realize we took a G-leaguer and have a 5th year guy as well, right?
Look I don’t think any of this nonsense should be allowed. But everyone is doing it. Some just better than others.
There's a big downside. Teams that don't get a court to invalidate NCAA rules or, who rightly do not even try, are at a big competitive disadvantage. Unequal rules ruin a sport. Everyone should just play by NCAA rules.Yup, the BE commish seems to have taken the position of just letting these court cases play out and see how many guys gain eligibility. It can only help the league and there really is no downside.
Has that ever happened in like 70+ years of ncaa? There's a big downside. Teams that don't get a court to invalidate NCAA rules or, who rightly do not even try, are at a big competitive disadvantage. Unequal rules ruin a sport. Everyone should just play by NCAA rules.
Don’t bother. You haven’t yet appreciated the whole post is #PDS. He is saying the P-word is ruining the sport for doing things that literally we also are doing or tried to do with our roster for this season, along with basically everyone else, save for the rare blue blood that doesn’t have to.Has that ever happened in like 70+ years of ncaa?
What are you talking about
The only downside is college sports getting more and more ridiculous. There is no reason to open college sports to people we all know dont belong, who just want to play in college (as opposed to "go to" college) cause now college sports overpay due to another set of ridiculous laws.Yup, the BE commish seems to have taken the position of just letting these court cases play out and see how many guys gain eligibility. I get what you’re sayingThe only downside is college sports getting more and more ridiculous. There is no reason to open college sports to people we all know dont belong, who just want to play in college (as opposed to "go to" college) cause now college sports overpay due to another set of ridiculous laws.
….? Colleges can’t afford? We have no rules and hope a judge rules in our favor. We are changing eligibility laws cause kids now want to stay in school cause they can make more money in college. Is there in end? Why cant kids cut from the nba and not getting an offer from another team go back to college ball if they can still play? G league, Europe pro leagues, NBA, whats the difference. Why limit the amount of years college kids can play sports? 4 yrs. 5. 8, whats the difference? I remember being a little kid, oh man, 4 years in HS, then 4 years in college before I am done with school. 4 years, hell, we even had names for each year.
As opposed to 5 years to play 4. You play pro ball you have lost your eligibility. Two rules that were accepted for years that are only being challenged cause college sports pays better.
As for money, first of all, it has all come down with no plan. Transfer every yr. For most players, NIL = LOFL. IMO. We legalized the guys who used to pass a suitcase filled with non-tracable bills to a coach while wearing a fake mustache, and their money inflates salaries all around. I have long thought kids who generate the money and publicity that major college sports deserve more than typical scholarship students. Legalize an amount that, based on revenues, colleges can afford. How much? I dont know. (I bet if 10 yrs ago, the NCA said schools can pay kids up to 100k a yr, kids would have ____ their pants in happiness.)
Are college sports now on the right path? This is how you want things to proceed?….? Colleges can’t afford?
College football is the second most popular sport in America, not close and it’s growing divide is increasing
They are probably underpaid
Just because WE (seton hall) can’t afford them doesn’t mean these guys are overpayed
Well that’s your problem honestlyAre college sports now on the right path? This is how you want things to proceed?
Fwiw, I pay no attn to college fb. havent watched in 20 yrs. My only concern is bb. College fb is an enemy to non fb schools, wanted us to go away and stop taking a share of the hoops pot.
Not my problem at all. I have Saturdays to myself. I dont pay attn to lots of popular things.Well that’s your problem honestly
College football is America’s #2 sport and growing exponentially..because of that it has totally blown apart the 80 year charade amateurism was in ncaa Football and basketball and it’s now all totally professional sports
Either pay or get out
Not the point at all but good for youNot my problem at all. I have Saturdays to myself. I dont pay attn to lots of popular things.
If things proceed unchecked, I might be out. Only thing that makes me unsure is missing the comradery of going to see my alma mater play with my friends.
Pitino has a history. And continues to follow the pattern of being a rule breaker. I know you're a big fan of his and St. Johns. That harms your objectivity. You didn't like my statement so you claimed I was crazy or deranged. That is over the top.Don’t bother. You haven’t yet appreciated the whole post is #PDS. It makes no sense, but that’s because it starts from a baseline level of rationality that’s one step above cutting one’s ear off or scribbling equations on the windows of a dorm at Princeton University.
Just stop. At the same time I addressed your insane PDS post, I commented about Bryan Hodgson and Ed Cooley, and things I disagreed with another poster having said about them.Pitino has a history. And continues to follow the pattern of being a rule breaker. I know you're a big fan of his and St. Johns. That harms your objectivity. this is especially true if you are at a disadvanage under whatever reules there are in place. At this point it seems like to best path forward is push the limits and allow the courts to decide.
