Interesting to see Nicole Fawcett, an Ohio native and an All Time great for the Lions, on the OSU coaching staff. Appears she volunteered for 2 years before being hired. World record for 55 points in a match...WOW.
---------------
Nicole Fawcett joined the Ohio State women’s volleyball staff as a volunteer assistant coach on Feb. 11, 2020 and was promoted to a full-time position on Jan. 7, 2022.

In 2022, Fawcett helped the Buckeyes to the NCAA Elite Eight for the fourth time in program history and first time since the 2004 season, finishing with a 22-10 overall record amidst one of the toughest schedules in the country. The Buckeyes finished 15-5 in conference play, earned nine ranked wins and strung together a 14-match win streak. For the first time in program history, Ohio State was ranked in the AVCA top-10 for the entire season, outdoing its previous record set in 2021. The Buckeyes also won three-consecutive matches against top-10 opponents for the first time in program history.

Also for the first time in program history, the Buckeyes had the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year (Kylie Murr) and the Big Ten Setter of the Year (Mac Podraza). Ohio State had three earn AVCA All-American honors and four earn All-Region honors, the AVCA Northeast Region Player of the Year and five be named All-Big Ten. For their efforts in the classroom, 11 Buckeyes were named Academic All-Big Ten.

Fawcett helped the Buckeyes to a 27-6 overall record and a 15-5 Big Ten record in the fall of 2021, earning five ranked wins during the season. Ohio State hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 by earning a No. 9 seed and went onto the program’s 18th regional appearance. The Buckeyes spent a program record 14-consecutive weeks in the AVCA’s top-10.

Ohio State had three receive AVCA All-American recognition, including one on the second team, one on the third team and an honorable mention. The Buckeyes had five receive AVCA All-Region recognition, including the Regional Freshman of the Year for the second-consecutive year, as well as five honored with Big Ten postseason honors. For their work in the classroom, 15 student-athletes were named Ohio State Scholar Athletes and 13 were named Academic All-Big Ten.

Fawcett is familiar with the Big Ten, having been a four-year starter on the Penn State women’s volleyball team as an outside hitter from 2005-08. The two-time team captain was a unanimous first team All-Big Ten selection every year and a four-time AVCA All-American, including three appearances on the first team. In 2005, she was named AVCA National Freshman of the Year, Big Ten Freshman of the Year and AVCA Mideast Region Freshman of the Year. As a senior, Fawcett was recognized as the Big Ten and AVCA Player of the Year. She helped lead the Nittany Lions to a pair of NCAA championships in 2007 and 2008 and was an all-tournament honoree both years.

The Zanesfield, Ohio, native embarked on a professional volleyball career following graduation. She has played in various countries, including Puerto Rico, Russia, Brazil, China, Italy, Korea and Turkey. During her professional career, she was part of numerous championship teams and set a world record for points scored in a single match (55) while playing in Korea during the 2012-13 season. She currently plays for the Dentil Praia Club in Brazil.

Fawcett was also a member of the U.S. National Team as an opposite hitter from 2009-16 and participated in 35 international tournaments. She was on the 2015 World Championship gold medal team and was the most valuable player for two NORCECA Olympic Qualifiers. She was an Olympic team alternate in 2012 and 2016.

During the offseason, Fawcett has been a camp clinician for the Volleyball Factory, Volleyball Express, and Penn State camps as well as working with the Give It Back Foundation, Starlings Volleyball and the Pennsylvania Summer Special Olympics.

Fawcett graduated from Penn State in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in human development and family studies.
