Yes, let's get back to recruiting. Checking the rivals final team stats, PSU is recruiting worse than I thought.
2022-16 blue chips average rating 90.05
2023-15 blue chips average rating 91.04
2024- 14 blue chips average rating 90.77
2025- 13 blue chips average rating 91.15 average national ranking 9th (blue chips=5 and 4 stars)
2027-7 blue chips average rating 88.23 national rank 21
Talk about looking stupid.
PSU fields an experienced team. I've seen estimates that its roster ranks 10th in the nation in terms of games started.
In addition, the most difficult games on the schedule are against teams that will likely lose at least 3 games.
The floor should be 9 wins. The concern is 2027 and beyond.
Agree, but recruiting like you plan to beat Ohio State and Oregon would help.
The kid is quite athletic as heck, he probably has the ability to play TE too.
I like this pick up and because of his athleticism he may show up a year or so earlier than we would otherwise think.
I read he plays this year at a New England school, so it's really about him learning football on this side of pond. By all accounts he's an intelligent fellow so that shouldn't take forever.
We will see this fall how he does against kids who have been playing the game since Pee Wee's and that might give us a better indication of his trajectory.

Yeah, per one of the podcasts he is playing at an upper level CT prep school against upper level talent this year. I agree with you that we’ll get a better idea about his talents. He’s obviously a bit raw, but he runs a very impressive 4.9 40 at 290 pounds. I think the staff made a good decision bringing him on as a developmental prospect with very little risk.
Yeah a couple 2nd team guys just happened to be drafted in the first round this year.
Are you predicting any wins vs ranked teams?
Tge main thing that changed is fans lowered their expectations.
But how does CT prep competition compare to CT catholic school competition. Asking for a friend.
The biggest challenges on paper are USC, Michigan, and Washington. It would be easy to predict that we lose those three but win the other 9 games. My guess is that we win one of those games but lose to somebody like NW or Wisc.
PSU would have been in a major rebuilding year even if Franklin had stayed. We would have lost Allar, Singleton, Allen, Pena, and 3 OL on offense. We were also losing key players like Sutton, Durant, and Wheatley on defense. We might have been looking at 9-3 or 8-4 anyway. The problem is we also lost a lot of players like Grunk, Campbell, Reynolds, and Rucci after Franklin was fired. We lost the entire high school recruiting class of 2026. I think the cupboard was more bare than it was after the Sandusky sanctions. Campbell propped it up by signing an amazing 24 kids from Iowa State. Fortunately a few of them are experienced and highly rated at positions of need. Unfortunately a lot of the more highly rated players will be in their last year of eligibility and our 2026 & 2027 high school recruiting is extremely unimpressive. I know we have the portal but my expectations are quite low for the next few years.

I noted this in a previous message but the new 5-for-5 rule means a lot of those upperclassmen may stick around for a 5th year. High school recruiting has never mattered less than right now. Don’t get me wrong, it matters, but when you have a roster cap and now all players get a 5th year, it means high school clases for all schools going forward will likely become smaller and more targeted…except for the colleges planning on being a football mill and going with quantity over quality and processing out players that don’t rise in their first year.
