Uh, I’d say there was a doubt in the 1st halfNever a doubt.
It's worth reading now. It was suicide watch for the first half. I was on that page too.Haven’t opened the game thread. Guessing everyone had faith this would be the outcome lol?

Lol. At 13-2 with 5000 people there it did not look good. Not sure what was colder, The Hall, the ice from the Devils or the 10 doors to outside they must have had open???Never a doubt.
and we scored 11 pts in the first 10 minutesWhen was the last time we scored 80 points! Damn that was fun!
Agree with everything except for “If it’s not clicking this team can and will as bad as last year at times.”Amazing how some of nastiness that was raining down on the game thread for the first half went absolutely silent.
simple analysis. The team is not as good as its highs, but not as bad as their lows.
tonight in the second half.
1. Sha started his best 5 and ran with Hines, ASM, Simpkins, and Clark for the bulk of the minutes.
2. He gave Fisher a short hook and put ASM on Carrol at the 4 and he held him scoreless for the entire second half. Totally the unsung hero on the night.
3. They pressed as always to get back in the game, but also pushed the ball off every miss to try and get easy points in transition.
4. The offense looks better when the shots are falling. Did Sha’s offensive coaching do a 180 at half? Nope, the better players took more shots and made them tonight.
This team offensively is going to go based on how well Clark, ASM, Simpkins, and Hines play.
Night to night you will hopefully get a wild card contributor. Tonight it was Dar with 10 hustle points.
This team has over achieved the entire season. Their individual talent has a ceiling. But when they play connected they can be competitive and raise the bar. If it’s not clicking this team can and will as bad as last year at times.
Maybe accept that reality and just watch the games and root for the team. The hate that came out of the woodwork the prior 4 games was disturbing.
It’s really simple we’re a terrible team in the half court both offensively and defensively. We let that kid Carroll do whatever he wanted in the half court. Teams that can handle the press will beat. Teams that can’t will make us look elite at times. I’m going 4-6 in the final 10. It boggles my mind when teams don’t go zone against us. I thought the big east had all these great coaches. As long as big east coaches let us apply pressure and speed the game up, we will be decent. If they actually watched us and put a game plan together like Willard and Matta did we could be 2-8 final 10 because everyone jumps on us early when we play in the half court because we’re scared of foul trouble and don’t press early on.Amazing how some of nastiness that was raining down on the game thread for the first half went absolutely silent.

ASM was on Carroll a lot in the first half as well. Dar gave up two wide open 3s in first half. ASM and I think also Dar both did a great job changing the play of Carroll in half 2 and in turn shutting down X.Amazing how some of nastiness that was raining down on the game thread for the first half went absolutely silent.

I totally agree. I guess some teams just don't practice zone enough to use it in games. But it is kryptonite against us.It boggles my mind when teams don’t go zone against us.
I called this game in pre game thread. Picked the Hall by 15, team took out their frustrations last night. More importantly it was clear to me sitting behind the bench they were back to pulling for each other. At one point teammates were standing and cheering for defense.Haven’t opened the game thread. Guessing everyone had faith this would be the outcome lol?
Everything is better when shots are falling. I think that is why we came away from Maui impressed with the team. We were hitting shots. And when we make shots, it sets up our press, we play better half court D, and we are just connected better as a team.4. The offense looks better when the shots are falling. Did Sha’s offensive coaching do a 180 at half? Nope, the better players took more shots and made them tonight.
Most of the posters have been watching and listening to games for years and years. Every season has low points, shots don’t drop, layups are missed, sky is falling. What matters most is how they finish when the money is on the line end of the season. Sha understands he needs to keep them all engaged and ready for a late season run. Painful to watch some games in January but if you can have 10 players to call on late in the year it’s to your advantage. 60 years of watching and can only remember a couple of teams that were consistently excellent for an entire season.Amazing how some of nastiness that was raining down on the game thread for the first half went absolutely silent.

I can understand UConn and SJU because they feel they have the athletes to compete with us in any style but everyone else is just being stubborn to play their style instead of attacking the weakness of the opponent. If they’re dumb enough to let their team get into a game of up and down the court with pressing and trapping, they deserve to get their asses kicked like last night.I totally agree. I guess some teams just don't practice zone enough to use it in games. But it is kryptonite against us.
Next week is another big week. We have road games at Nova and at Creighton. Absolutely need a split. Unfortunately, getting a split will be very tough. While Creighton certainly looks more beatable than prior years, i hate the fact that we play Wed, and then have to fly to Creigton for a quick turnaround.
Not sure when the switch was made in the first half. But Carroll did have 16 points in the first 14 minutes.ASM was on Carroll a lot in the first half as well. Dar gave up two wide open 3s in first half. ASM and I think also Dar both did a great job changing the play of Carroll in half 2 and in turn shutting down X.
If teams want to run up and down the court with us and we just have 1 guy knocking down outside shots like Simpkins did, we're going to win a good number of games. I don't expect much against Depaul, Villanova or Butler as their coaches seemed to game plan us perfectly. The rest is a crapshoot.Wow last night was amazing but it was an outlier from the previous 6 games. So the question has to be was last night the exception not to be seen again in another 6 games? Or have they turned the corner? This team has been consistently poor offensively and much better defensively. So let's see what team shows up on Saturday. They may revert.
Overall this team is better than last year.Agree with everything except for “If it’s not clicking this team can and will as bad as last year at times.”
Nothing. And I mean NOTHING will ever be as bad as last year. It’s an utter and absolute impossibility.
Even if you pull out some stats and prove that we go through stretches that resemble last year, I will not believe it. Last year was an abomination.
I am really intrigued to see how the House Settlement impacts CBB next year.Everything is better when shots are falling. I think that is why we came away from Maui impressed with the team. We were hitting shots. And when we make shots, it sets up our press, we play better half court D, and we are just connected better as a team.
Sha has to prioritize getting some scorers in the future. He can get them to play D. He needs guys that can make shots.
Will the NCAA and Deloitte have any real oversight on auditing 3rd party NIL collective deals for their true value?
I agree with your observations. I was at the game and in the first half Sha was destroying Staton McCray whenever Carroll would hit a shot and I was saying to myself what does Sha want hin to do? It is why it stuck out to me.Not sure when the switch was made in the first half. But Carroll did have 16 points in the first 14 minutes.
I don’t think ASM started picking him up until later in the first half.
Honestly not going to go back and rewatch the film to split hairs. The guy was killing us and then we completely shut him down.
Give credit where credit is due.
Carroll was bothered a ton in the 2nd half by our defense and not letting him get wherever he wanted with a deliberate, slow dribble. I think he had at least 2, maybe more turnovers in 2nd half.Keep in mind that Carrol missed a good portion of the 2nd half with foul issues. Going into the game I thought AJ was a decent defender but Carrol really exposed him.
