Ledecker is the only wrestler of this tournament, male or female, who I have seen wear headgear. I researched the UWW Uniform Guideline document and I saw nothing that would prohibit it. Supposedly it used to be that if your opponent objected to you wearing headgear you had to take it off, but I saw no language like that in the UWW Uniform Guideline document or the UWW International Wrestling Rules. On another note, one of the other U.S. women wrestlers was wearing a 3/4 length sleeve on one leg, and the mat chairman told her to take it off. I did not see anything in either the UWW uniform guide or rules that explains the mat chairman's decision.

I don't know how much of a minority I'm in but I have not gravitated to Women's wrestling. I'm 63 and have 2 daughters that played youth coed sports and had no issues with it. I just seem to have problems with the wrestling end of it . I did have one daughter suffer numerous concussions in b-ball and soccer that she still has side effects from it. Maybe that is part of my feelings.

I dig this principle. It's a really novel concept, in all of sports. And has definite value.

But not indicating it with an actual change of score is hilariously silly.

And trying to indicate who is winning with an underline underneath one of the tied scores is mindnumbing insanity.
I don't think that actually changing the score before the match is over would be wise. Say a match is 5-5, with the first 5 winning on criteria. Giving that wrestler an extra point during the match to make it 6-5 would be confusing. If the losing wrestler then gets a push out, what happens to the score? Do they just reverse?

I think that the best solution is to make it very clear to the wrestlers who is winning at all times. The underline is okay if it is very visible and obvious. Otherwise, highlight it in some other way.

While I have similar feelings on the subject, I saw some of the girls at the NWCA All Star Meet at Rec Hall a couple years ago. I have to admit I was impressed with the toughness and skill level.

This Begoyan who went all Rutgers on Blaze is pretty tough. Super short and strong. He’s up 8-4 with 2:00 left in the bronze medal match. Right after I post this he gives 6 unanswered and is a down 11-8. Fun match with Begoyan losing 12-11

Blaze is up next I believe

To my eye, there are many women's sports that can actually be more interesting to watch, because as slightly slower and less physical styles of play, you can "see" the level skill a little more easily and appreciate the "beauty of the game." Soccer and tennis come most readily to mind. But in the sports where "physical" is part and parcel of the game (e.g., wrestling and hockey), they don't do much for me.

Blaze up on mat B. Let’s go!!

Blaze controlling center. Blaze scores first with a stepout. 1-0. Khateri just keeps ceding ground and is wrestling with his *** in the zone. Khateri on the clock. Marcus with a stepout and the shot clock point. 3-0

Another stepout. 4-0 Blaze. Make it 5-0 with another stepout. Khateri has nothing so far

5-0 at the break. I thought Khateri would try and shut things down to keep it close but he has just been ceding ground the entire match. Smart by Blaze to not force anything and just takes his 1’s

Blaze in on a single. Pics it up and takes Khateri to the edge. Just 1. 6-0 now

Blaze holding center and just handfighting now. Up 6 so no need to press. Blaze goes front head and drags. Runs around for the Td. Straight to a gut and that’s it. 10-0 tech!!

Hell yes!! Blaze has been the best guy in this entire tournament hands down. He just decimated a pretty good field

U20 61kg Final- Marcus Blaze vs. Ahora Farhad Khateri (IRI)

It appears the wrasslin' season has returned to action! I missed the first couple days of this tournament, but here's Blaze's match.

Period 1:
Here we go! Hand fighting & tying up. Blaze presses forward a bit. Collar ties, hand fighting & snaps. Khateri gets to a leg, but Blaze fights out of it & keeps moving forward. Blaze has Khateri in the zone & on his knees. Stoppage & restart, no scoring. Tying up again. Blaze tries a throw by. Khateri gets a passivity warning. Blaze presses forward again & drives Khateri to the edge & out, 1-0. Back to neutral. Tying up & hand fighting. Khateri gets a 2nd passivity warning & goes on the clock. Blaze presses forward again, reaches for an ankle, but doesn't get there. Blaze takes Khateri out again, 2-0. Neutral restart. Blaze gets a shot clock point, 3-0. Blaze presses forward again. He shoots, but no luck. He has Khateri on the edge, but Khateri circles back in. Blaze keeps coming & gets another step out, 4-0. Blaze presses forward again & drives Khateri out, 5-0. 22-sec left. Khateri shoots & gets a leg, but Blaze fights him off. Back to their feet. Blaze reaches for a leg again, but no luck & that's how the period ends.

Period 2:
Back to action. Khateri reaches for a leg, but no luck. Tying up & hand fighting. Blaze presses forward, drops to a low single, elevates the leg & takes Khateri out, 6-0. Back to neutral. Tying up & hand fighting again. Khateri snaps & reaches for a leg, but can't finish. Khateri pushes forward. Blaze circles back to center. Blaze tries a drag, but can't finish. Blaze presses forward again. Snaps, hand fighting & collar ties. Khateri shoots, but no luck. He shoots again, but isn't close. Khateri tries a double, but no luck. Blaze drags. Khateri drops to a leg. They're on the mat & Blaze circles behind for the TD, 8-0. Blaze adds a gut for the tech!

Marcus Blaze TECH Ahora Farhad Khateri 10-0

Marcus Blaze is the U20 61kg champion!
