Shelby seems to play to their competitors level quit a bit. I think Hibriten is a very good team but they are going to have to incorporate some type of passing game, even if it’s just a couple easy reads early, to keep Shelby off balance. If I was Hibriten I would come out slinging the ball.

I think this says it all. Not being a homer; but I know how good SP was this year and I know how Shelby played SP in game two and there is no way they played with that same intensity and only beat MP 7-0.

Like last week with Franklin this week is no different for me. Hibriten has to win a big one for me to trust them. I just don't think they can mix it up enough to make Shelby even remotely respect a pass. SP didn't complete a lot a balls against Shelby this year in either game, zero to be exact in game one, but the threat was there. With Hibriten I think Shelby will be able to pin their ears back to go after them. Even so, I think it will be a good game. Hibriten can still have some success moving the ball on the ground if they do not become predictable. We were able to run for 341 yards in the first game and only attempted three passes.

Shelby 17-7

Somebody made a comment about Foard. Lemmie tell ya Foard has come around like u wouldn’t believe. I’d been telling people on here not to sleep on em in the near future. 2 years from now after Hibriten loses this group of talent like they lost in 2010(making 2011 a major growing pain year)Foard may roll into Lenior n have their way. West Caldwell will be down and South may rise again to how they were for a good stretch of time. All that has nothing to do with this game I know ha ha. But that’s just my Caldwell co talent forecast for now. Could it change, yes, the weather man ain’t always right and neither am I.

This year and definitely next year Hibriten is gonna shine. If they wanna consider bringing a Charlotte powerhouse team up for a good slobber knocker edge of your seat non conf game like Butler in 2010 next year will be the year to do it. Vance, Mallard Creek, Charlotte Catholic or Harding will Work just fine. That’s another one- Harding. We’re did these guys come from? They’ve stank for 20 plus years.

Helps when you have the #1 ranked player in the class of 2019 in your backfield and playing LB.

As mentioned, Mount Pleasant had non-functioning play clocks. Not sure how a high school field in 2017 is allowed to not have play clocks. This shouldn't be an issue for Shelby.

As mentioned we beat Robinson 42-7 in 2 quarters in a preseason scrimmage. Looks like Hibriten played them a few days later for 4 quarters and only mustered a 33-6 win. As mentioned previous scores really don't matter.

Since 1997 and not including this year, Shelby is 59-10 in the playoffs, not counting championship games. (66-13 including championship games and 69-13 including this season.) That is incredible in two aspects.
1. We have played 8 regular seasons of playoff games over the last 20 years and average making the Western Finals.
2. If we have only lost 10 playoff games over the last 20 years then we have made the championship game 10 times in the last 20 years. In other words, Shelby has a 50-50 shot of making the title game any given year. Wow. These stats amaze me.

Including this year, we are 46-6 at home and 16-4 away in the playoffs. No one has a home field advantage on us. Doesn't matter what field or where it is, we come to play. We were a little flat Friday against MP. I believe everyone expected that including MP fans. We survived and advanced. We won't be flat this week. It is the Western Finals. As proven above, we belong here.

Hibriten is a legit contender. I've seen both teams play this year and the Panthers have a very good defensive unit. What impressed me was the unpredictable schemes they ran against Franklin. Shelby has a very solid unit, including all 3 linebackers. Offensive schemes with above average execution will win this game. This game should be worth the effort to show up and watch in person.

Truth is this Shelby team is very beatable.

So? Hibriten is beatable too. What does Shelby being beatable have to do with this game?

Look at the two teams (from a true non-bias perspective). Hibriten is a one dimensional team on offense. Shelby's defense is the best Hibriten will have seen all year long. They will limit Hibriten's running game. Can Hibriten then throw to beat the Lions? Also, Hibriten has speed on defense, but they will be facing an offense in Shelby that also has speed and will seriously test Hibriten's secondary. Not to mention that Hibriten had way too many turnovers against Franklin. If they have even close to that many turnovers against Shelby, it could get ugly.

You keep repeating that Shelby is beatable, which sure, that is true. But a certain type of team will have to beat Shelby, and Hibriten just doesn't have the goods to be that team.

What is your score prediction for the game?
Honestly I don't know. I haven't seen Shelby play so all I have to go on is there scores and what a few posters that I trust have said about them.
I think if both teams bring there A game it could be 14-13 type game. If 1 team has turnovers or gets caught off guard game plan wise it could be a 3TD win for either team.
IMO Hibriten has to complete a few passes and can't fumble bottom line.

Do you think Hibriten can do this, complete enough passes (more than just a few btw) to take pressure off the run game?

How many completed passes does Hibriten average per game?
From a Hibriten fan perspective I think we can complete a few. But I'd say anyone that watches our film will stack the box and make us beat them passing.

We average about 5 attempts per game and complete about 2 of them.

This is another tough one. Hibriten has what it takes to win a state title, I think. Tons of talent. I don't think they should worry about passing if it's not what they do. South Point destroyed us a few weeks ago without throwing a pass. If they come out and execute tot he best of their abilities, they have a chance.
However, I have picked Shelby every single game for about 40 years and I'm usually right. I'll take the Lions again this week.

How's Shelby O- Line and D-Line?
O-line is up and down. Started the year bad, which is expected for new starters, but have had good and bad games since. The pass-blocking has gotten consistently better, but the run blocking is below what it should be.

D-line is good. Not yet great, but very good. Probably underrated by most. They are young , but solid.

One more question and then I'll stop bugging you lol. From your perspective as a Hibriten fan, among the teams you have played, which one had the best defense and why?
Hard to answer. JM Robinson limited the big play and made us a 3yd and cloud of dust team. Newton played aggressive and forced some turnovers. Franklin was tough and in the right spots just didn't have enough speed.
I'm fully aware Shelby will be the best defense we've played.

I'd say Newton was the toughest defense you faced.

Hibriten has to throw the football if they're going to win. From what I can tell a lot of the offense is giving it to Gee on a sweep or some play getting him to the edge to outrun everyone and that aint gonna work against Shelby's defense. IMO Hibriten has to throw the ball and their offensive line will determine the game I believe. In the triple option if you don't get a hat on the linebackers inside then you're gonna have a hard time and Im not sure Hibritens line will be able to contain the Shelby linebackers. Defensively Hibriten has some players and are fast to the ball but playing against teams like Franklin and Patton isn't comparable to the speed Shelby has on offense. I do believe if Hibriten can pressure 12 all night then they will have a chance. To beat Shelby you have to put constant pressure on the qb.

You are correct....that certain type of team is Shelby. There is no 2A team in the state of NC that can beat Shelby except Shelby. That was shown in week 11 of the regular season. We were down 14 in the first 2 minutes of the game because we made terrible mistakes. We couldn't dig our way out of that one. The second time around, we played to the best of our ability and that was evident with a 33-23 victory over the second best 2A team in the state.

If we come out and play to the best of our ability and don't beat ourselves, Shelby wins. If we make costly mistakes, we are done. I don't see these seniors allowing the latter to happen. We made costly mistakes against MP, and we certainly didn't play to the best of your ability. As someone mentioned, we have a tendency to play down to our competition. I don't see that happening this Friday. It's the Western Finals and our boys will be pumped!

Funny thing is South Point blew our doors off with no passes, then we made MORE mistakes in the second game...and won. We must have had 200 yards in penalties that game. So many personal fouls and drive extending pass interference calls. The difference, in my view, was the fire we brought in the second game. Kids just decided against losing.
We can be beat, and we can be beat by 2A teams. Already been proven. Hibriten may turn out to be the best team we've played. Don't know yet, but if we show up with that same fire...watch out.

Never have saw Shelby play at all only on film. What's on YouTube for the world to see. Heard about all the championship etc . Wasn't impressed till you put on the pads if this team can survive everyone's best shot !! MP was knocking heads that night . No lie about it . It's definitely got to be one of hardest of the 5 to win for them . With still 2 games left . Much respect hibriten if you can play with the same force and awareness for 4 quarters pull off the upset . South point has a good team but defensively we are on another level. We can pass rush and cover very well. 7-0 Shelby . Good luck

The best team Shelby has played this year was South Pointe. The second best team Shelby played was South Point. That will remain true after Friday night.

He was a Shelby fan and he used snide remarks like Westboro as well.

Good for him. I'm just giving my honest views on this game based on what I've seen from both teams.

btw, he wasn't the only one who connected you to Westboro on that board from what I recall. Not to mention that many of the beliefs you advocated back then pointed in that direction too.
