Dear Seton Hall Community,
Today marks a significant anniversary for Seton Hall and American Catholicism. Fifty years ago in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Paul VI canonized our patroness, Elizabeth Ann Seton, making her the first American-born saint.
At her namesake University, we have been celebrating and venerating Mother Seton in special ways since the 250th anniversary of her birth in August 2024.
Her life and faith are meant to guide, console and inspire us. She shows us how to persevere during trials. She teaches us about the crucial importance of education. And she reminds us to praise God in times of joy.
Beginning today, we will integrate Mother Seton’s vision more deeply into the Seton Hall experience through our new strategic plan, "Inspiring Great Minds to Greater Purpose."
The plan will serve as a North Star to point our way forward, and under which we will align our resources for the next five years.
Just as Mother Seton placed faith and hope at the center of her work, we are committed to exemplifying her Catholic values in everything we do. Specifically, our new plan will advance these value pairs throughout the University:
  • Faith and Hope
  • Trust and Integrity
  • Courage and Curiosity
  • Compassion and Service
  • Love and Action
  • Purpose and Resilience
By relying on Mother Seton’s lessons as an educator and foundress, "Inspiring Great Minds to Greater Purpose" will enable us to elevate Seton Hall in transformative ways.
I invite you to learn more about our path-breaking patroness, as our University joins in the global celebration of her 50th anniversary as a canonized saint.
Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for us!
Yours truly in the Lord Jesus,
Monsignor Joseph Reilly
President
