Everyone keeps overlooking Ajani Sheppard current QB on RU's roster in discussions regarding our QB position for next year. IMO this kid is very good. See what he did vs Wagner this year & look at his HS stats & video. He needs to get a legit shot at winning the job next year.

It was Wagner but he just looked so smooth.
4 game rule almost in play.
Has 3 games to play
A few keepers around the end, quick slot screens , maybe a series or maybe just a play or 2

I want to see more of this kid as well. He's a more punishing runner and will get piles to fall forward. When you're not getting much out of the passing game, what are you giving up by trying? I don't see Simon as an option. We need a QB who can run and take a pounding.

I haven't given up on Wimsatt,. He got off to an awful start yesterday but settled in and made some really nice throws. He's much better on a three quarter side arm, zip throw. Anything, overhand with touch should be eliminated. He missed those throws by a combined 50 yards...some were almost in the yips category. If you can't do it, why try?

Not with Dremel lol
Your anti Dremel comments are getting old and you are losing credibility. In another thread you beat him up when he got wide open because he wasn't fast enough to get under it and didn't lay out even though the ball was at least five yards overthrown. He was fast enough to get wide open and makes great cuts. He has twice as many yards as the next receiver on the team. Doesn't matter that he was a walk on and is 5'9", he has become a legit D1 receiver.

Schiano seems to get walk ons that are better than some of previous coaches scholarship players.

Five year player with 432 yds and three TDs - no Wes Welker here.
He's a decent little slot WR but he's not a guy to be sending long, into end zone corners jumping for balls vs OSU. I mention him because people keep blaming Wimsatt when part of the problem are WRs who would have to fight to start on Wagner. YAC yards? Forget it.

Here's listing of top 100 receivers in CFB - no Rutgers players on it.
For a team in eastern B1G that;s no good

Dremel is probably a top 5/top 3 slot receiver in the league. Wtf are you talking about? The route he ran to get open for the ball Wimsatt overthrew him was amazing. GW hits him and he's probably over 100 yards for the game. Did you forget his 75 yard TD against #1 defense Michigan which was mostly YAC?

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Go fellate Deion and his 1-5 in the PAC12 sons.

That listing is by yards per game. Are you serious? Is Marvin Harrison Jr. really the #9 receiver in college football?

Rutgers has players all over those stat pages but for recieving its like RU doesn't exist.
That's very bad for a B1G team.

I swear some fans still think like they are in the BE.

Alas, pre-season previews highlighted that the WR room for RU was "lean" to be polite so its not like I'm throwing shade on superstars.

"While there are many wide receivers on the Rutgers roster, the group is largely unproven at both the FBS and Big Ten level...Rutgers is hoping that Division II All-American JaQuae Jackson and FCS all-conference receiver Naseim Brantley can play big roles this season."

"We have a very green receiver room. Not a lot of cumulative stats in that room, so we’re working hard. We have some different combinations we’re going to look at," Schiano

"Rutgers struggled to push the ball down the field last season. It was one of the worst passing attacks in the nation, despite having some capable receivers on the outside. That is being shown by players getting a chance at the NFL level. The problem now is, there is a very raw and inexperienced receiver room for the Scarlet Knights for 2023."

SO - its no secret RU WRs are subpar - lots of obsevers saw it all. No BIG QB would want RU's WR corps

Shephard in his brief stint against Wagner looked to have quick twitch athleticism and a quick release with solid velocity. Honestly looks like a better prospect than Gavin.

Shepard needs to spend another yr in the system. Needs to build his body.

A quick look at the highlights video:
-accurate
-looks like he can go through his progressions
-long windup
-not a rocket arm
- not a fast twitch runner like GW

So why play if preseason ratings are dispositive? Notre Dame should be basking in their Top 10 ranking.

As the saying holds "You go to war with the army you have."
RU having an underwhelming position crew is nothing new unfortunately .
As far as I am concerned, anyone playing D1 ball vs the Michigans and Ohio States gets a stud award.

But that doesn't mean we have to pretend they are all great players.
Its fair to critcize Wimsatt but there's room to allow for fact he's trying to throw to cast-offs.
RU doesn't have B1G WR corps.
I know people like to cheer the little guys/hard workers but if RU wants to be a good B1G team its needs good WRs

The notion that Dremel is Wayne Chrebet 2.0 is fantasy - RU wishes it had Hofstra era Chrebet

"Chrebet enjoyed a very productive college football career. Playing from 1991 to 1994, he set several school records, which include the single-game receiving yards record (245), touchdowns in a game (five), season (16) and career.

A four-year letter-winner, he twice led Hofstra in receiving yards, and during his 1994 Senior season he became the first player in school history to amass 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. He also etched his name in the NCAA Division I-AA record book by scoring five receiving touchdowns in a single game, tying a record held by NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice." Wiki

OK now put all that up vs 430 yds and 3 TDs in 5 yr career.

I’ve said this in the past as well. He played against decent comp in hs, has the physical metrics and can play the game. Looks like this forum made up its mind that Sheppard is not worth the chance with AJ coming up.

Our receivers have been hampered by a lot of bad passes by Gavin. They've also made some really impressive catches this year on balls thrown near the ends of their catch radiuses. I think I've seen more diving catches this year than I've had in a long time.

We also run 75% of the time. Just looking a receiving yards and determining they must be bad receivers lacks critical thinking.

Its easy to see why RU cant pass much.
We know Wimsatt isn't Cakeb Williams and he gets torn-up after every loss.
Sure a few passes get away from him but that's not that unique
Better WRs would help Wimsatt more than better QB would help RUs WRs

When I played I was always struck by how easy football looked on TV - with a bird's eye perspective.
When you are on the field with huge guys crashing all around you and LBs and DBs chasing your men down its hard to even follow it all in a few seconds.

When a 5' 9" WR is racing down the sideline you have to see him with the big guys screening you up front and the DBs running along with or behind the small WR who you might not eveb be able to see. Throwing long balls timed for distance and speed are tricky. Its no surprise TV announcers saw Wimsatt likes the crossing routes. If Kenny Britt is on the fly its a different story. Teel and Britt were good at 9 routes (red zone not so much)

I would have already given him time in early blowout games and most likely would have given him time yesterday for the last series.
