Don’t worry , today’s story will be about current rutgers coach Kirk Ciarrocca’s involvement . Then there will be op-Ed piece to fire KC without cause so rutgers pays him full salary .
Then tomorrow’s story is Schiano was behind it all as he mentored fleck and stole KC from him so the same thing could happen here

Why is it a bs headline?
C‘mon on, really?

It’s obviously not an untrue headline. But, they could have put lots of other descriptors here, like maybe his current school, or one of his other stops. He had 3 other jobs since RU, including another HC job where he had much more influence. And, the guy was here, for what, 2 years?! Not exactly an RU football institution, lol. It is ok to acknowledge that the headline is a bit silly and mainly just for clicks.

Of course the headline is for clicks….that’s my point.

You’re going to put Rutgers in the headline. It’s all about clicks, and more people are searching “Rutgers” on nj.com than “Minnesota”

Good, then you probably share the point as the OP.

The headline is for clicks (not really news). I.e., for popularity (not really news). I.e., for entertainment (not really news). So, it’s fine to say some entertainment is BS. And this one kinda is.

So it’s your opinion that because the headline is written for clicks it’s BS?

Every single headline on every single website should be written for clicks..that’s digital media 101.

And I do believe this is newsworthy, especially after the Northwestern saga. There’s a reason other outlets picked up the story too

It's just a play on the old song- Ya Gotta "Ax-Cent-Yuate" the Negative... When it comes to Rutgers (cue Carly Simon) Nobody Does it Better than NJ.com

You keep saying it’s “not news” ”So it seems to me that to you…the story is BS, not the headline?

I’d agree with that…though I feel like it is news..it’s a bs news story.

Clicks at the expense of accuracy. It's a footnote of little to no importance where he was coaching 11-12 years ago. If you want to print a fact driven newspaper that would have occupied a de minimus part of the article. If you want to print a National Enquirer style rag knock yourself out.

Headlines online are designed to get attention, it’s no different than what tabloid newspapers have been doing forever. The actual article ( for those that read it) contains researched information. The article wasn’t among the leading articles under the Sports section. NJ.Com and the SL cover RU sports in some depth. Today, the SL had a front page sports section article on Wimsatt being named as starting QB.

But it was accurate.

No it wasn't, in context to what is being covered. What is the most important thing being covered? It sure as hell isn't that when the current RU students were in elementary school he was a Rutgers coach.

It’s right there in the headline..how he’s accused of a toxic culture…that’s the most important thing about the story.

There is nothing wrong with the headline..no matter how much you want there to be. Again, it’s digital media 101.

Now I’d agree…if this was the headline in the printed edition..that would be different

Well, as I said above, if the SL wants to be a tabloid they can knock themselves out. The question I would ask, do the ad revenues generated by the clicks generate more income than the subscription revenue than they would have generated if the numerous posters here who refuse to subscribe had indeed subscribed because of crap like this headline?

You’re confusing the star ledger with nj.com. One is a print edition..the other is a digital. Headlines shoujd be different, no doubt

The publication uses every opportunity to make RU sports look bad

This is obvious, it goes beyond clicks

Don't forget the Gilgo Beach killer once lived in New Brunswick. Maybe he once went to the Grease Trucks. That's definitely worth a story!

I disagree with that.
That is fine
I go back to when every incident with the football program was magnified to where the unknowing public thought we were terrible
,
studies showed that we were one of the better teams at not having incidents, but NJ,Com would never report that
The net result is that the general public has a distorted view of RU athletics

So it's OK to create a false impression for cash?

Yes let's turn NJ.com into the Enquirer.

This is why news is dying in a lot of quarters.

I don’t think their reasoning was to create a false impression.

Again, having Rutgers in the headline is more beneficial in NJ then having Minnesota in the headline.

No inaccuracies and a very common digital media tactic to get clicks.

Shocking allegations! Not. I love the line about "punishing workouts that continued until players threw up." Did any of these people ever actually play sports?

By today's standards, Herb Brooks would have been convicted of "assault" against the 1980 Olympic Hockey team for making them do line sprints. Again! Again! Again!........

I know of at least two instances where readers have a very bad viewpoint of RU athletic s
Maybe they don't post much positive to counterbalance

Do they show the positive at all?
