It most 4-2-5 defenses, you still play with a NT.We are not running a 335 or 3-4
We don't need a huge NT.
We need athletes at the DT position.
Oh and great DTs don't enter the portal unless there eligibility is up.

I always remind myself the audience for those press conferences includes the players. Some coaches espouse the "if you believe you can or you believe you can'tn you're right". Unfortunately sometimes your coach can pump you up to do something but you really can't. As for what he truly believes, remember he fired a coach for saying we needed better players.Glass half full vs glass half empty perspective comes down to how much do you believe in this staff’s ability to identify talent and then develop it. To believe, you need to hope in something that has not been seen to date. Remember Rhule claiming our lines were going to be dominant last fall? Can’t trust anything he says on the topic. He’s either a bald-faced liar, or he’s too stupid to know what he is looking at.
People will tell you we need speed so we need smaller guys. That is a false dichotomy. What ever happened to big AND fast? That is what good teams prefer. If you have to choose it means you are poor.Nice get but 270?
The last two guys they got need to add 40+ pounds of good weight by August. Not really something that is going to happen.

I get it, I was just saying that there is still a need for a bigger dude to clog the middle in that A gap. Agree doesn't necessarily need to be 330 but it can't be 275.Understood l. Im just saying we don't need a 330 pound NT.
I prefer quick athletes in a 4 man front.
Im not coaching so what does it really matter...
Lol
Redshirt freshman. Strong side DE maybe. Just a baby.Depth piece at Pitt, recorded stats in 10 of 13 games. Three years of eligibility left.
Baker Steinkuhler played DT for Bo at 260. His words after he graduated.I think it depends what type of defense we end up running. He's certainly not a NT in a 3 man front, but is good size for a 4 man front at only 6' tall.
And listed weights often don’t reflect accurately what those guys weigh during the season. In 2010, the DTs on NU's depth chart went 290, 285, 285 and 280. Collins and Valentine were bigger. But the weights for DTs has generally ranged between 280 and 300. RVP and Gabe Moore fit in with past DTs at NU in term of measurables.
Parrot played a little in the bowl game. He’s at 330 now.I get it, I was just saying that there is still a need for a bigger dude to clog the middle in that A gap. Agree doesn't necessarily need to be 330 but it can't be 275.
And apparently the conversation about future playing time went so well that he entered the portal and is now back on the team. I am not sure he is the answer at NT, but what do I know.Parrot played a little in the bowl game. He’s at 330 now.
Only made me think of him because he was a Pitt DT too, but Aaron Donald was 6'1" 280lbs.Too light. I will take him since he can bulk up. But he is not right now the lane clogging big body we need. That said, he looks on paper to be a solid addition.
Do those rushing numbers include lost sack yards?Despite having an All-American RB, our rushing numbers were bottom half in the conference.
One of the things that good coaches do is look for the things that players can do well. All of the comments about transfer players and high school player revolves around what that player can't do. If a coach is calling defenses that requires a player to do something he isn't good at, that is not the players fault. Adjust the defense to meet the strengths of the players. There will always be holes and weaknesses on any defense, but if you need an LB to cover a slot receiver or a RB in the passing game, you don't assign a Dylan Rogers type of guy to do that. What the coaches think about the DL roster players and what the fanbase (and this board for sure) thinks are two very different things. There are more factors than just the players - the alignment, how the players fit that alignment, and how those players were actually played. I do not think Butler and Rhule were in alignment, and that became more evident as the season wore on.
I keep coming back to Nash and Ty playing late in the season in 2022. They were decent, but when the rubber hit the road, they couldn't stop the run. There were discussions when White was hired as to whether Nash was up for the assignment, as he had been a rotational guy for most of the prior season. Fast forward to the first game against MS under White. Those two stoned the Gopher's run game. White immediately got more out of the players.
Love seeing big guys with their shirts off.

The last season NU won 9 games and played in a 4 man front was 2016. Davis twins at 290 and 295, Stoltenberg at 290, Maurice at 300.You do know that's like 16 years ago right?

One common comment from former Blackshirt players I’ve heard is “getting another year older and stronger is huge for a D lineman”. I like the guys we’ve recruited the past two years. I’m excited to see who shows up in the 2 deep this fall. Simpson is my guy. Loved his high school video. The question for all of them is do they have the want to?Do we have better defensive tackles right now or last season, it's an honest question if you can be honest with yourself. I think we have a better defensive group right now and with new coaches we get a fresh new start. Will the 2026 schedule be a bear? yes without question but just maybe we can play better football on the front line. Who knows maybe we can even have a winning season in 2026 not a great season but one that's respectable.

Guys routinely try to adjust their weight aggressively for the combine. Many guys have trouble trying to keep weight on during the season. 10 lbs for a linemen is about one big poop. I know I’m preaching to the choir here. You know that. Obviously combine weights are accurate at the time they’re taken. Roster weights? Often not so much. What is a fact is that Baker Steinkuhler said he played DT for Bo at under 270 lbs during the season. 265 if I remember right. He said he couldn’t keep weight on once fall camp started."Listed" weight....Both went to the NFL combine and weight 308 and 313. Believe what you will though. ..nfm

Ahhh ok...gotcha.Thats not bad but all of those guys were 6'2 or 6'3 I think. The kid from Pitt is listed at 6'0 and the JC kid 6'2. If those are exaggerated by an inch like most those frames araren'very long. That was their weight their RS fresh year.
Yeah, and right in the middle of spread heavy Big 12 play. The Big 10 is a different animal and requires run stuffers in the middle over pass rushers at every position. You do know that's like 16 years ago right?
