I give the Bears and Caleb credit for beating teams placed on their schedule but their wins have been against crappy teams.

I can't even get through the 2nd quarter without drifting off to sleep because none of their opponents are exciting to me.

I think on those drops Caleb can take a bit off those throws to increase the probability of a reception.
Are we really in a position to say that from stands/couch??? Come on…..
They are pros, can’t have that many drops.

So much to respond to in your 2 posts, unsurprisingly. Entering the season, the Bears had one of the top 5 toughest schedules. Now, they are being criticized for not winning by enough. Would I like them to slaughter teams? Absolutely. However, this is the NFL and their defense is barely holding together.

Secondly, "Caleb is throwing the ball too hard." Go take that talked about nap, just like you talked about in previous seasons. I don't see anyone complaining about Josh Allen firing it. Favre and Elway hucking it as well. We are talking about pros here. Figure it out. I can only think of the one to Moore that could be considered "too hard", the rest were very catchable balls.

I disagree. The Bears have played against 3 backup quarterbacks this year, of which one beat the Bears and had a 1-5 record and in addition I would consider Rattler a backup quarterback and at this point in his career I would consider JJ McCarthy a backup QB who the Bears also lost to.

To this date their schedule has been pathetic.

"Entering the season" is an important part of the sentence. It also doesn't matter what you would "consider" a QB to be. McCarthy is QB1 on the depth chart in Minnesota

I dont see other QB1 teams having 8 false starts in one game.

Again, I like JJ but he is a backup right now.

Completely agree, it's shameful they didn't fill week two when ESL opened up in the Classic...

I dont think the Bears are playing well enough to get into the ESL Classic.

The combined record of teams the Bears have beaten this year is 15-41.

We are aware of the record of teams the Bears have beaten, we have been over this.
It is what it is. It's the NFL, you take the wins when you can get them and move on. Like I said before happy with 6-3 and now they need to win some DIV games. Winning in the NFL is razor thin no matter what anyone thinks. The talent level isn't huge from best to worst. We are seeing what seems to be a real solid coaching staff and a QB getting better. Make no bones about it, the Bears aren't GOOD, they are a decent team with a competent coach and QB getting better especially late in games.

NEGATIVES
less of DJ and more of Luther (he must have a lot to learn but really want to see more and more of him)
The way we are winning isn’t sustainable.
The way Caleb runs around isn’t sustainable.
Special teams (I’m ready to move on from Cairos)

POSITIVES
Caleb has the clutch gene
Colston is going to be a dude
Run game is great
Really like ours backs
Darnel Wright is living up to expectations and is a pro bowler.
Ben Johnson is the coach we’ve all been waiting/hoping for.

NFL is ANY GIVEN SUNDAY this year. Such an odd year

Dolphins over Bills?
Browns/Panthers over Packers?

Indy/Seattle/Denver/NE all 8-2???

It doesn’t take years to rebuild a team. Get the right staff in there and the turn around can happen quickly….and we have that staff.

We will take the wins as we grow.

A couple of additional large negatives:

Lack of pass rush
Injuries to DBs makes it a positional weakness

Think our defense can be legit if we can get everyone healthy.

but yes, certainly some negatives in the secondary currently.

Bears are 6-3 and after reading some of these comments you would think were 3-6. Be happy were 6-3, before the season if you were told going into week 11 the Bears were 6-3 would you be happy? enjoy it while it lasts!

Agreed - I think of it this way. They are 6-3 with a half of a game from their top corner - just two games out of their slot corner and just 2-1/2 games out of their top linebacker. Gordon should be back in two weeks Edwards maybe this week and Johnson in a month. If they can hang on they could be dangerous

I agree with you but I will also add we are at the point in the season where everyone has guys starting that were sitting on the couch a few weeks ago...nature of the beast in the NFL.

Why it hurts the Bears so much is they had their D strength decimated.

Very true. Look at the Niners for example. The schedule gets tougher but Johnson has them believing they can do anything. It’s tough to watch at times and fun to watch other times

My biggest concern right now is the fact that they continue to need these late game heroics. The Bears 6 wins are against teams that are a combined 15-41-1.
Exactly. The Bears haven't beaten a single team with a winning record...or an even .500 record. A win is a win. But let's see what the future holds.

They don’t make their schedule. Look at who they have beaten - Vegas - beat New England week 1. Dallas- tied mighty Green Bay, Giants - beat Philly and had Denver on the ropes. Saints - just won at Carolina and had the ball with a chance to beat the Patriots. As Johnson has said, they won’t ever apologize for winning.
And the Patriots beat the Bucs and Bills...on the road for both.

Sun Times: I am not sure exactly what this means. Is it Lu or Caleb?

Luther Burden picked the perfect time Sunday to make his biggest impact in a month.

On the last play before the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter, the Bears’ second round rookie ran a fade stop route against Giants cornerback Korie Black, plucking Caleb Williams’ pass from the air at the Giants’ 28 and pushing two defenders nine yards for a gain of 27.

“It was a pretty easy deep stopper,” Burden said. “Get him going, stop on a dime, get a good completion.”

In the three weeks leading up to Sunday’s 24-20 win against the Giants, Burden had caught three passes for 21 yards, suffering a concussion against the Ravens that kept him out of the Bengals game.

Sunday, he caught three passes for 51 yards.

“You’ve slowly seen his rep count go up,” coach Ben Johnson said Monday. “He’s a guy who is starting to get more targets. It’s a trust level between the coaches and the player. It’s a trust level between the quarterback and a receiver. It continues to ascend.

“He has been very productive when he’s about to get the ball in his hands. And there’s a strong argument that we should get it to him more.”

Williams knew before the snap Burden had man coverage against him.

“As ‘Lu’ has said, when he gets the ball in his hands and he’s one-on-one, he’s pretty dangerous,” Williams said. “I had full belief. It’s something that we’ve been throwing for – I think we’ve had it up for about three weeks now. So I just felt confident in that moment — and I felt confident in him.”

I remember the 2018 season. The Bears finished in 1st place with a 12-4 record. The teams they beat that season had a cumulative record of 79-110. We all remember what happened in the first game of the Playoffs at Soldier Field.

Their division was crap and a lot of people I knew didn't think they would win their first playoff game. But a lot of people I knew felt they would go deep into the playoffs. Until this current team proves to me they can beat good teams, I am not putting them on any pedestal.

No one is planning parades...
You would think some people are. In the scheme of things I would rather see the Bears beating crappy teams than losing to them. Yes, am glad they are winning these games. But let's keep things in perspective. I just can't shake the thought of the other shoe falling.

So people being excited, there are things to be excited about, that equals they are planning a parade...ok. This sounds like a "you" problem.
They are 6-3 and it has been a fun first 9 games of the season. We have a HC that seems to have a clue about what he wants to do on the O side of the ball and Caleb is progressing. IF they want to be a playoff team they need to win some DIV games and it starts this week in MN.

I am a jaded NFL fan - this is my history. Born into a Big Red family, AKA STL Cardinals football team, they were always back of the pack, making the playoffs only once in my life (when I was 9) and then moved to AZ in 1988.

Along came the Rams in 1995, who sucked when I still lived down here until 1997, when I moved to Chicago. I had been a Bears fan since 1985, but more so in college, starting in 1991.

Since then, the Bears have had just seven double-digit win seasons, making the playoffs eight times. They have used first-round draft picks for illustrious players such as Alonzo Spellman, Curtis Conway, Rashaan Salaam, Curtis Enis, Cade McNown, David Terrell, Marc Colombo, Rex Grossman, Michael Haynes, Rex Grossman, Tommie Harris, Cedric Benson, Gabe Carimi, Shea McClellin, Kyle Long, Kyle Fuller, Kevin White, Leonard Floyd, Mitchell Trubisky and Justin Fields.

Meanwhile, in 1999, The Greatest Show on Turf commences ... and I miss it because the regional games I'd get in market were Indy on Green Bay, never STL.

I moved temporarily from Chicago to Waukesha for 2021 and '22 seasons, the latter being the year Rodgers broke his leg and they missed the playoffs.

I think I am the Marty Mush of the Sunday League.

If the season ended today the Bears would be in the playoffs as the sixth seed ahead of Green Bay. In the last search I made it said they have a 49% chance getting in. Of course you'd rather see them in the playoffs and not out of it.

So really, this whole thing is now in their hands. Just win and keep winning and no one below them can catch them. We all know that how they play in the division games will get them in or keep them out. Now is when the temperature will increase and it goes up much faster during Thanksgiving weekend and after.

The cream will eventually come to the top. So we'll see. The goal now should be to get into the playoffs. If they make it in, I will consider it a successful season even if they lost their first game considering where they were and started this year. But if they don't get in, I will consider it a failure. They are in now and it is theirs to win or lose.

Just a few Bears' facts to show I am no hater. Yes the schedule hasn't been a killer so far. But it will be from now on. They have the 4th toughest schedule left. Six of their remaining eight games will come against teams with current winning records. Two are under .500 but one of those is the Vikings in Minnesota. Very hard road left and if they can make the playoffs I think it will be a big accomplishment. I think they can beat the Vikings and Browns. But they may have to get two more wins from somewhere else to qualify for post season.

The Bears have won six of their last seven games to put themselves in position for post season. They are in right now.

Pittsburgh? That can be done. The 49ers? Maybe. They have had two Defensive All Pros out for the season for a while. The 49ers game may be a big one that determines who gets into the playoffs. SF is currently 8th on the list. They have three tough games left and four quite easy one. They have the 19th toughest schedule left.

The Patriots are getting into the playoffs. They have a very easy schedule left and if the beat Buffalo again they could wind up with the best record in the AFC. But they have also played some good football and Vrabel is an excellent coach. Indy has the 2nd toughest schedule left. And Denver has the 17th toughest schedule. So that whole thing could be very interesting.

Yes, I would like to see the Bears in the playoffs. But a loss this week might prove devastating for that hope. It's not too early to talk playoffs and remaining schedule.

MN is a big game and gives them a clearer path but this is the NFL. They will win a game we don't think they will and loose a game we think they should win.
We shall see....

Essentially, the season starts now. 3 games over the next 14 days that will pretty much determine their playoff chances. They go 0-3 against MIN, PIT, and PHI leaving them at 6-6 which means they would need to go at least 4-1 in December to get to 10-7 and have a chance at the playoffs.
