The huge comebacks are fantastic to watch, seems the clock doesn’t move during them.

Didn’t win tonight but UCONN is elite.

I generally don’t care as much anymore about sporting outcomes but I was actually on the edge of my seat tonight!

Sha needs to let the team practice at the Rock as much as possible. The team is just not used to playing there and needs to get a sense of the depth perception for shooting.

Mixed emotions now back from The Rock. Our defensive Trapping is Elite at crunch time. The team elevates its focus when making these crazy comebacks. The fans get an A++. We MAKE a difference. The team has heart and doesn't give up. Maybe we will be Dancing after last season's debacle??

I also have to be critical of these first half offensive displays at Home?? That was a Big Stage game, and the team is so tight at Home?? When Simpkins and Parker missed 4 of those 5 free throws the game changed. The Team is better and more talented than last year's roster, but you can't survive with most of the starter's contributing zilch on offense. I thought Creighton did not seem as mature on the court as they have been in the past, but UConn on the other hand plays so intelligently and workmanlike. That's why they are a Great Program. NBA Talent doesn't hurt.

UCONN didn’t shoot FTs well either that but that was mostly 1 player: Reed was 5/13. Rest of team 11/13.

We crapped the bed all over the place. Parker goes 1/3 after being fouled, Clark goes 0/2 down the stretch on a trip, SMDH. They combine 3/7. Simpkins also had an 0/2 in there. Bizarre. Nerves?

IMO,
He drives well on fast breaks, but when he drives to the basket to create a shot,
he turns it over or gets fouled.
Also our drives and dives to the rim are not nearly as effective in BE play as they were in the non-con. These coaches know us better, they clog the lanes bc there’s no reliable shooting.

Right now basically only have Clark midrange shots to keep that honest. ASM and Fisher are lost.

Those sets they run are ridiculous! So many opportunities for layups and dunks. At least they were cold from 3 as well 3-17.
They look so good against SHU because of the aggressive defensive style we play and they have outside shooting we need to respect.

I would really like to see ASM or Simpkins play a two man game with Hines to get them some open looks with some inside-out passing.

And we really need to swing the ball sometimes. Just tossing it around the perimeter doesn’t set anything up at all.

We've come to expect these heroic comebacks...... but jeez.... for once can we NOT fall behind so much. When you cut it to one with 38 seconds and then come up empty.... it's a bitter pill..... I hope the lessons learned from all those missed opportunities will set the tone for the rest of the rest of the season. Down 18 I was sure we would still make a game of it. UConn is really good and we stood toe to toe with them. Proud to be a Pirate!!!!

Yep, until we can shoot from outside the living in the lane with be difficult. Also need to establish an inside game with Payne or Hines, especially Hines. Guy had incredible position serval times and Clark could not get him the ball. If we can do it with Bedieko and Godswill, we can do it with this contingent.

Sha has to insist that we establish something inside. Fisher is not getting it done, maybe start Rivera and bring Fisher off the bench?

We did beat ourselves. However, we went toe-to-toe with the number 4 Team in the country and almost came up with a win. We showed that we belong in the top 25 at least for now.
THIS IS THE MESSAGE FROM THE UCONN GAME.

With the limited chances at Top-20 wins it’s important for our profile that we eliminate bad losses. It’s unusual not to have 1 somewhere but you really can’t lose home games against Butler, Xavier, Marquette, DePaul, or Providence.

How about channeling the good vibes and putting up a commanding 12-15 point rocking chair game against Butler on Saturday? No white knuckles down 10 with 10 to play. Butler had fallen apart.

Fish is a 3 playing the 4. Its tough for him in the paint. Not fair to him

imo, pushing our luck when someone has foul problems and they get their third in the first half makes an upset easier to happen. Not seeing Budd out there can be tough but I dont like taking the chance.

Our offense has been brutal for a long time. We are surviving on Offensive rebounds, Points off TOs and tremendous play in the final 5 minutes of games. Our halfcourt offense was good in the OOC but our offense has sputtered in Big East play.

All of our guards have FG% below 40% in BE play except for Parker and Rivera. We need to find some way to improve our shooting. Our best shooter/scorer has not been the same player lately. Perhaps AJSM is struggling because of the ankle injury he sustained in the Marquette game? In the 3 games since, he's averaging 4.7 points and is 2 for 10 from 3. He was arguably our best player during the OOC when the offense was respectable and his outside shooting was incredibly valuable. We need him playing well.

I think we need to find a way to feature our Bigs more in the offense. Hines, especially needs to get touches in the post. Our guards don't do a good job of feeding him and Hines has to work on presenting himself better to receive the ball.

Fisher has to find a way to get points and I think Rivera deserves to get more minutes. Rivera has been one of the bright spots in BE play shooting 68.2% from the field. He is going to eat more of Fisher's minutes.

Trey Parker has already seen a big uptick in minutes and he deserves more at this point. In the past 4 games he's averaged 22.8 minutes, 9.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and shooting 45.5%-33.3%-80.0%. He's also been playing strong defense.

And we MUST keep Budd and our 2 Bigs out of foul trouble. Budd needs to be able to play aggressively, especially late in games. Hines needs to be able to play more minutes when the matchup dictates but can't do it averaging 6.9 Fouls per 40 minutes in BE play. He must not jump at every shot.

The offense is very concerning. I keep harping on the outside shot but we can certainly do a better job at running good offense near the rim.

Wide open 3PT shots are there every game based on how teams play The Hall and the team does find the open guy but these guys just cannot connect. This team is 1/16, 4/14, 2/7, 7/20, and 3/13 the past 5 games. That's 17/70, .242. Included in there is the sparkling 4/29 against Villanova and Connecticut at home, games we lost by 13 total points.

On the one 3 we made, Budd got in the lane and zipped it to Mike. Was this the only pass from a penetrating guard to a 3 pt shooter?

Not saying we didnt get other good looks, but I think the guards need to find guys when they drive sometimes, shooters and the bigs too.

And we spend so much time up top with the handoffs. And we never fake a pass. And those predictable passes uptop, so primed for a pick six, scare the shot out of me.

The good bews, Mike got some of his game back vs uconn. ASM is next.

I am feeling good. No swoon in site.

The worry:.

**Staton-McCray came into this season a .327 career 3PT shooter after 5 seasons. He’s at .358 with SHU given the hot start.

**Williams .324 in the two years at LSU, he’s .322 at SHU.

**Simpkins only shot .259 (22/85) at Elon last year. He’s already at .413 for SHU (19/46).

**Parker was .357 at NC State (20/56), he’s .250 at The Hall (7/28). Maybe give him the looks, LOL.

**Dar was .364 (36/99) at Rice, but is only 2/9 at SHU. Can’t imagine he’ll see enough playing time to matter.

Yes. No JJ Reddicks on the bench. But I am less concerned with past shooting percentages than many others. Confidence and circumstanes, and hard work might make a difference.

We wont win shootouts, but we are not 1 for 16 either. 3 for 16 sucks too but might have been a winner Saturday.

Obviously defense is our game but we can do a better job setting up the bigs and we can shoot better. Will we? Maybe we find out tomorrow.

A question that needs to be asked is if we always come up on the short side in the first half due to rotation minutes. There are a few players on our roster that always play more in the first half than second. That may need to change soon if they don't start contributing more.

Why not hit teams w our best lineup right away? Not saying to limit AJs minutes but try TJ at the 2 and see if that sparks something. Maybe the other teams bench guards wont focus on AJ as much when he comes in off the bench. Weve gotta do something to limit these droughts. Who knows if itll work or not but why not try something. Theres also a structural issue w the halfcourt offense. Compare us to uconns constant screening, backscreens, cutting. U dont need to be lebron to do those things. Our offense can look so stagnant, then we settle for 1 on1, over dribbling which leads to a disaster.

I like how after a loss everybody is now eager to change the lineup. But when I posted that thread a week ago nobody thought it was a good idea. Maybe we beat UCONN if we changed it up.

Maybe Sha thinks it is our best lineup. Maybe he loves Parker and Simpson off the bench. Maybe he fears losing ASM by not starting him. Maybe 14-3 equates to it aint broke?
