Nice pick up - said sincerely.

If the SEC weren't so loaded with talent, I think we could definitely finish in the top half - said somewhat snarkily.
I mean, it really is. As was McBride. If he can find a way to sign a kid like Momcilovic he might have a heck of a team. As it is, they will compete as well as last years squad and I actually think better. Mire athletes for sure

This roster is worse than last year's 3-12 LSU team. Basically, Pope has to be twice the coach McMahon is to get a TENTH seed in the SEC.

None of these buffoons would be willing to put real money on UK achieving even an SECT win with this current roster. It's easy to rah rah with zero on the line.
I'll put $100 on that we will win an SECT game with you. Put up or shut up. You can repost this about tournament time and I will stick with my commitment will you?

Diallo - Morton - Williams
Wilkins - open
Williams - Hawthorne - Noah
N'Diaye - McBride
Moreno - open - Potter

We need a backup big man and an elite wing scorer just to have a chance to finish top 6 in the SEC.
Not being a dick, but I don't think even with that we are a top 6 in the SEC unless it's way down. I think last years team on paper was probably better and we finished 9th.

Retention doesn't mean jack in this day and age, especially with a coach as cringe as Pope that few can stomach playing for. We all thought we'd get more years from Chandler, Perry, Lowe, Jelavic, Mo D, and Garrison.
5 in 5 will change that. Plus a good season with 25+ wins will solidify the middle core of the team. Mo Williams on the bench will be an added asset. We might as well get ready for a 4th & 5th year of Pope.

Just need another backup big and we're done.

Contrary to a lot of angsty fans, I actually really like the roster we have so far. I think we have defined starters and backups who will know their roles.

We have more shooting than last year and more athleticism than Pope's first year. We have PG depth (legit 3.5-strong). I do think we can approach 30 wins with this roster. That's still far from the standard, but this is a genuinely good group of guys we've got so far.

Boom.
30 wins? I just don’t see it with that roster.

Good pick up. This team would look pretty darn good if you had gotten Stokes or can luck into a stud that withdraws from the draft or some magical foreign savior.

Definitely finishing outside the top 10 in the sec. Probably finish 11th or 12th. 16-20 losses.

Mark pope isn’t capable of being at the top of the SEC. This roster and his other ones are just confirming that. As long as he’s the coach he will field teams that are around the middle to bottom of the sec and that’s the best we’re going to get with him as our coach. Look at the other rosters in this league, this team isn’t even close to getting UK back to being elite.

Some on here are buying the same hype that was on last years team and they’re setting themselves up for disappointment. Theirs a reason Pope went 0-14 with top 25 recruits in this 26 class. That’s not going to work here and it’s obvious.

It’s good to pick up a local kid.

Morton is a very low impact player. Didn’t come close to leading a 12–20 Washington State team in any category. That three-point shooting percentage is on very low volume, and he is not a physical player; very low rebounding totals throughout his college career.

But very low turnovers, older and experienced, and will be glad to be at UK.

Gonna need a major leap from Moreno to crack the top 10 in all likelihood, barring a major signing.

I’m guessing we end up somewhere between Pope’s first season and this one, between 16 and 30. Kinda like where his BYU teams end up when they had a decent roster.

Regarding Morton, he played his best against the 5 best opponents on the schedule. His offensive rating was over 135, had a BPM of almost 9, and shot 60% from 3. So that might be encouraging! :)

Even if he got Stokes, he’ll still find a way to go 10-8 in the SEC.

We actually finished tied for 7th with a 9th seed in SEC Tourney.
This team is more talented with 3 point guards and upgrade at the 4.
We return the center & a 7’1ā€ backup.
Kam & Hawthorne at the 3 is definitely equal to Chandler with added height & rebounding.
Definitely no Super Stars but a chance at an overachieving Team with a chip on its shoulder.
Reminds me of the Iowa or Iowa State teams this year.

Lol I was with you til you said 30 wins. Now I feel like that's a troll post.

I like the backcourt a lot actually. The question is will guys like Kam and Hawthorne and Moreno take those next steps. And how good is Ousmane honestly? If those guys step up and are plus players I can see maybe a 21-10 type year if a couple balls bounce our way.

But 30 wins? Cmon lol
Exactly what you said in the second paragraph. For this team to be ā€œgoodā€, Kam, Malachi, Hawthorne will all have to meet or exceed expectations. Any kind of regression, or lack of progression will be detrimental.

Good this year would be somewhere around what Pope’s 1st year team did. 4 seedish. However, I expect us to be at or below where we were this last season. Hope I am wrong.

I am optimistic about Diallo and Wilkins making others better on the team. Don’t think we had a guard last year who made others guys better. So there’s that.
