How is it set when they haven’t even practiced?

Have starting positions been promised?

I mean are there a bunch of options out there better than Wilkins and Zoom? That were in on? If so I'd love to hear it..list em

We actually finished tied for 7th with a 9th seed in SEC Tourney.
This team is more talented with 3 point guards and upgrade at the 4.
We return the center & a 7’1” backup.
Kam & Hawthorne at the 3 is definitely equal to Chandler with added height & rebounding.
Definitely no Super Stars but a chance at an overachieving Team with a chip on its shoulder.
Reminds me of the Iowa or Iowa State teams this year.
Other teams are literally upgrading and some by a wide margin. I’ll give you the PG spot might be a little better and only from a facilitator perspective.

Not one player on this team currently is better than OO or Aberdeen at scoring. Not one. We could have had Wilkinson but Pope literally waited on Stokes and missed on him. There are several teams in the SEC that have bench players that would start here. That’s the sad truth.

Momcilovic and the Israeli big and we are good
Imo if we had Momcilovic to go with McBride, Moreno, and Potter, we’d be set enough in the post. Marcios Santos would be a fine value add for size and depth but our real need if we get Momcilovic is Stefan Joksimovic to finally bring our offense to a decent level.

I don’t think the team is bad. Just not great. Sadly, many in the SEC loaded up. Florida, Tennessee, Hogshi$s, but we may able to crack the top 6-8 with our current team plays Santeria

Problem is that’s just not good enough to convince boosters and the new AD of keeping CMP for another year. Three straight years of being in the middle of the SEC is bad, really bad.

Just need another backup big and we're done.

Contrary to a lot of angsty fans, I actually really like the roster we have so far. I think we have defined starters and backups who will know their roles.

We have more shooting than last year and more athleticism than Pope's first year. We have PG depth (legit 3.5-strong). I do think we can approach 30 wins with this roster. That's still far from the standard, but this is a genuinely good group of guys we've got so far.

Boom.
30 wins? What are you smoking sir? I want all those pills. Must be the good ones.

Lol I was with you til you said 30 wins. Now I feel like that's a troll post.

I like the backcourt a lot actually. The question is will guys like Kam and Hawthorne and Moreno take those next steps. And how good is Ousmane honestly? If those guys step up and are plus players I can see maybe a 21-10 type year if a couple balls bounce our way.

But 30 wins? Cmon lol
I wont touch the win total but I am generally positive about the lineup. Some lingering questions:
  1. Can Kam or Hawthorne be a consistent, starter level wing? I believe one of them will, but there's a chance we end up with two players who are good but not good enough to make that position a consistent positive. Sort of like Jelavic and Dioubate at the 4 last year.
  2. Is N'Diaye going to come in ready to start? What does he bring to the team besides three point shooting? I expect McBride to be a rich man's Almonor, but not an SEC starter, so we need N'Diaye to prove he can do it
  3. How will Zoom and and Wilkins fit next to each other? Two primary ball handlers, neither a knockdown shooter.

I honestly like our bench depth. The only real problem I see is Williams as the starting SF. I don't think he has the talent to be a Sec starter, but maybe halfway in the season Hawthorne will be playing so well that he takes that spot.

I'm hoping Kam or Hawthorne can step up and be 10+ ppg on offense and get 4-5 boards a game.

We have N'Daiya and McBride at PF with Hawthorne (SF) and Kam (SF/PF). We can take two more forwards. Just seems crowded to me.

Big man I can agree with. The Brazilian dude in Israel would be a stellar bench piece.
With McBride on board, I actually think we will get more production out of that position this coming year. On the offensive end atleast.

I keep saying, the reality of the situation is bad enough, there's no need to create hysterical fantasies like some people are. Barring a rabbit-out-of-a-hat stud wing, I think we'll have a year somewhere in the range of Pope's first 2 seasons. We failed to sign our top targets and ANY good freshmen but I'm just not seeing the case for us being terrible. I think we're going to be pretty mediocre.

I'll put $100 on that we will win an SECT game with you. Put up or shut up. You can repost this about tournament time and I will stick with my commitment will you?
Is this really where Kentucky has fallen, bets on whether we will achieve a single SECT win? What a pathetic shadow of its former self this program has turned into.

dude- are we paying these guys?
to be honest the "caliber" of player barely warants a scholarship...
Of course, he's paying for them and overpaying to boot.... How do you think he gets any player to play for him just ask any of the team last year... Pope and that Brown decided not to match them this year what they paid them last year and they scattered like cock roaches when the lights get turned on....

I've been asking, can anyone sell me on this kid? Among the starters on a 12-20 Washington State that finished 8th in the West Coast Conference, he had the lowest usage percentage, the lowest true shooting. The only way I'm ok with this is if he's the 3rd string point guard for when both Diallo and Wilkins are sitting (and we stagger their rests so one is on the court as much as possible). He does not seem good enough to be a major rotation player for us. We definitely need at least 1 more guard/wing and for Morton to be no higher than 6th in the rotation of 6 guys at the 1-2-3.

Louisville lands 8pts per game guys and posters here say PK is killing Pope in the Portal! So which is it? He is our 8th man in rotation, what do you expect to fill that spot with?
The thing is PK is also bringing in legit top 25 guys. If Pope was doing the same thing it’s 100% a great pickup. But he’s not. He’s bringing in these mid major guys that don’t have the best offer sheet as starters because he simply can’t recruit.

Kelsey has Shelstad, Bidunga, (top 10 transfers) Montgomery, (Elite D guy who Pope wanted) Karter Knox a great 3 and D guy and Folg who has elite 8 experience.

We have Wilkins who is by far our best guy but Zoom cannot shoot and our international guy is a complete unknown. He’s skinny and more than likely gonna get pushed around in league play. Now we’re just getting low level D1 guys.

I don't really care how many end of the bench guys we get. The problem is we don't have any studs. Everyone complained last year about having too many role players, and it might be even worse this year unless something drastically changes. I would love to be positive about next year, but it almost feels like we have the same type team without Oweh to bail us out. Maybe we'll get lucky and the pieces will just magically fit. Who know. Nothing I can do about it anyways.
