Can Albemarle turn it around?

Thank you SpikeTomandJerry4 for telling the truth about some of the Bulldog players acting like thugs in school. Here is a dash of REALITY in any readers face. Most of the football team players come from a single parent home. Most do not have a father figure in the home and in the teen age years it becomes painfully obvious there is no discipline.

Now I know this doesn't pertain to ALL the players, but DISCIPLINE is the biggest problem at Albemarle. No fathers in the home, No coaches like Jack Gaster that would go to the homes of his players in Amhearst to make sure they were doing what they were supposed to.

The kids have no guidance and it's telling on the playing field. Riddle me this, if there is no guidance/discipline in the home or classroom, then HOW can there be any on the football field.

Yes, the kids act like thugs, it makes them feel like men. They have no idea what it truly is to be a young responsible adult at home and at school. What have most of these kids got to look forward to after graduation??? Most will not/ can not go to college. That means trying to find gainful employment. What the chances of that in Stanly Co. or surrounding counties. Most of these kids single parents have one means of transportation. That means trying to get another car to even find work.

Bottom line, a lot will fall in their mothers footsteps and apply and get government assistance for housing and food. We all know the truth about these kids, but no one wants to really talk about it.

SO, until the homes of these kids get organized and more disciplined, the football team will tell the truth on the field about who these kids really are.

It is my understanding a lot of high school age males in Albemarle have become infatuated with being gang members and they do not all have the same allegiance. Is this true?

This is the reason that I pushed so hard for a particular coach to get the head job.

I was the first one going home from games and banging my head against the wall, but you have to be realistic. With the injuries/suspensions we had early on we were lucky we didn't get killed the first four games. We were in every game until the end of the game except for Concord. We definitely have a chance regardless of results to WM or NS, to win a state championship. WSHS and NSHS both had chances to beat us last year, with a completely healthy team. If NS fields the punt late in the fourth quarter, we are probably talking about if NS can win two in a row. The coach last year chose to play Nivens at QB to avoid the loss to WS, even though he wasn't supposed to play until the next game for throwing a computer out of a window. Coach Smith at least held his morals and took a loss holding out his two most talented backs in Emory and Bennett. He could have played them both against WS if he wanted. From what I hear we started a tackle Friday night from East Rowan that is about 6-3, 290lbs and played great! That is a game changer up front. He started the past two years at a 10 win 3a team. Not sure if KW has ever seen our fat tubby runningbacks but I guarantee that he nor WM wants anything to do with them from a physical standpoint. If we had Emory at WS we score 10+ and win that one. Long answer to an easy question is hell yeah we can turn this around and win a state championship at small 1a.
I promise you WM welcomes and will have plenty to do with those RB's! Wonder how many times they can take a big hit and keep picking those big bodies up off the ground? Our guys are more conditioned and trained than any team in the conference, followed by EM! This is a 2 horse show with Montgomery County leading the way! Y'all can have your past, we will settle for the future!

I have to agree West is the best in the conference last year and this year but that is conference play and that's a long way from a state championship. Let us hear from you if you ever win a state championship. When you do I'll be the first to congratulate you.

That's a mouthful Buzzard0 coming from a team that can't finish the job. You guys HAVE NEVER won a State Championship in 1AA and you have won the conf. two yrs in a row. BIG DEAL. You got your *** handed to you when you did get to the finals by a real program.

Win a few State Championships and I will take your program seriously, until then slow your pie hole a gear or two. The Warriors may not get to the West Reg Finals this year much less the State Finals. Don't run and hide when N.S. or East Mont. shuts you guys down.

Also, if you want to know your future, take a long look into your past. ALBEMARLES DOMINACE IN 1AA speaks for itself.

Fallen, you should be thankful that when you've won your championships, you had some schools in the regular season to push you and make you better and prepare you for the big dance. Unfortunately, WM has had no such luxury the last couple of years. Maybe this will be the year.

What it takes to win a state championship. Just from Albemarle's prespectitive. First you have to have a great coach in place, also it doesn't happen overnight. Jack came here in 93 and laid the groundwork for success. He started a youth program and kept a close eye on it and the middle school program. This is where it all begins. We went undefeated in 94 and went to Thomasville in the second round and got our butt handed to us. The next opportunity came in 96 when we went to Starmount and got our hearts broken. Move on to 98 or 99 we went to Cummings which was a passing team and they ran the ball down our throats and more disappointment. Then came 2001 and we finally got over the hump. As you can see it took Jack 8 yrs to finally win a SC. It is not an easy thing to do, but the rewards are worth it.
WM has every thing in place to win it all. You just have to make it happen.

@fallenmpireofalbemarle I disagree. Not having a father figure in home, doesn't make an excuse for the way these kids are acting. I for one grew up in Amhusrt, 17 years to be exact. Was temptation there, yes, was violence around me, yes, did I use that as a crutch to go out here and act stupid, no.

There are support systems all around that can help these kids, but unfortunately they made their choice, and hopefully they will make better decisions going forward. That's just part of growing up.

It's not all about football.

@btango, there are all kinds of gangs in Albemarle:white, black, asian, and Latino. There's nothing new under the Sun.

Tell all the ones that think it is tough to read this. Played for my buddy in youth football (Mint Hill Steelers). No one really realized how tough things were until after his mother passed. He never let on, all he did was work hard, did not complain, and kept his big motor running all the time.

Hope he gets on another practice squad and eventually makes it in the NFL but if he does not he will succeed.
