I e-mailed them about this two days ago. I received a response an hour later that refunds would be fully processed within 2-5 days.

Not for nothing, but this was one of the biggest reasons why we were leary about having the GoFundMe page plastered all over these boards. Completely anonymous things aren't always the best way to go about things. Hopefully it works out for everybody and your money gets to the proper place somehow. Remember, if you get it back, I'm sure you could donate it directly to Rutgers.

GoFundMe is reputable enough for crowd-funding, and I've never had issues dealing with them in the past. I can't speak for everyone who donated to the campaign started by 'theRU', but I'm leery of donating directly to Rutgers for football right now because I'm dissatisfied with the current coaching situation and don't blindly trust the administration to make the right decision after this season. FWIW, the money donated through GoFundMe (even though it wasn't accepted) was for a very specific and publicized purpose.

People got the attention they wanted out of it. Now we sit and wait to see if it gets them farther with their cause. Hopefully this program can straighten things around.

This is exactly right ski. Gofundme is one of, if not the, most reputable crowdfunding sites in the sector. Just because Rutgers and most people in Nj act like it's 1955 doesn't mean that crowdfunding and digital platforms aren't legit business strategies and companies.

You guys all deserve to lose your money. A rutgers baseball player starts a cancer fund after losing his mother and raises $5K, none from this forum donate or support.

A coach (that I also want fired) has a page set up to lose his job and you guys all pitch in money. Some "F.A.M.I.L.Y." this is.

I had never heard of this page set up for the baseball player. I'm sure I'm not alone. Maybe that's the reason people here didn't contribute.

Maybe you should refrain from making judgements before jumping down everyone's throat.... and you won't come off as such a jerk for hoping people lose their money.

I am sure uo find me is legit snd works got certain specific purposes. Just in this case it proved to be an unacceptable vehicle gor the Foundation and got obvious reasons the theRU may not fully understand. Ski I would tenc to agree with uoi5 regarding your feelings and concerns. And I think many of us feel the same way and will choose to withold further donations or commitments until some issues are corrected or resolved. Remember that athletic giving deadlines for priority points etc extend into the spring and hopefully there will be answers before then. Very fair post.

Just got the following reply:

Hello David,

I see that we are in the process of issuing refunds to donors. Let me reach out to our payment processors to confirm when the refunds will be processed.

I will keep you posted with any updates I have as I receive them.

In the meantime, don't hesitate to let me know if you need anything else. I'll be here.

Thanks,

Jon

I am tempted to ask him if, from his experience, that baseball players are dicks. I also lost my mother to cancer but, 1) never saw his campaign, 2) never thought to try to cash in on it and 3) Would never call anyone out for not contributing to a charitable issue.

"Hope you all lost all your money because you didn't give me money?!?!" Hopefully his dick-ish statements aren't reflective of his true self.

Sorry, I emailed GoFundMe and Jon was the employee that responded to me. In other words, "it's a process."

I think he was referring to the Baseballfan poster above who basically wishes we would lose all of the donated money because a previous campaign to help someone with cancer (one I never personally saw) did not receive an overwhelming response.

Jon is the person from GoFundMe who replied to the OP about the refund.

Somebody in Nigeria is laughing his butt off with $8800.

No, but, seriously, I hope you all get your money back and give it to something more worthwhile.

You'll have to excuse GoFundMe on this delay. They've never dealt with a charity already certified on their website refusing a donation before.
Rutgers is certainly abiding by their mission of giving people new learning experiences...

I read this forum multiple times a day and didn't know about this. I would appreciate it if you don't excuse me, any many others, of not being part of the Rutgers family.

gee--you would think with all this sophisticated technical stuff that some on here brag about they would have sent refunds instantaneously

the flood defenders will continue to grasp at straws to try to discredit anything...its amazing. Everyone will get their money. By some fluke if anybody doesn't, the other benefit of using your Credit Card is that they will protect you.

I was told this is the first time they've had to process refunds for a certified charity campaign. The all or nothing campaigns that go to individuals are set up for automatic refunds through a different process. SInce first giving is the processor of charges for charity donations, this is now a 2 party and manual process.
