From their behavior during Penn State's recent slide. The toxicity at the stadium was an embarrassment. In any event, we will see how they will behave next year and the next during a rebuilding phase. And by the way, Napier's best season in 4 years was 8 and 4.

This is now a much better football culture than 20 years ago, just ask George Mitchell. He fixed it!

We absolutely dont need a coach by any date. You don't pass on the best guy for a month of work.

It's October 20th. Do you want a rushed hire or the right hire. This is the downside of Firing a coach with two months left in the season. No one is going to come out and say they want it.

The only way to name a coach at the moment is to name one who isn't coaching, or maybe coordinator who leaves immediately. So basically take your pick of Urban, Saban, Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher.

Any current college HC is going to wait til the regular season ends, if it's the coach of a playoff team it could be an even longer wait full of speculation.

You may be right. But kind of a tough argument to make when there are two PSU football players, from the most recent/current regime, awaiting trial for rapes of female undergrads. A situation that, based on actions taken by the University, they all want to pretend never even exists - and certainly not one that led to any actions taken by the University vav the head coach or the program.

I’m good with giving Campbell a shot. I don’t think you can pry Brohm from Louisville. Golesh and Sumrall are intriguing but they are doing it at the G5 level. It’s a little different at the P4 level. Maybe they are home runs, but it is a bit of a gamble. Actually, I may be ok with them over a few others.

I think for most away games they can take a smaller plane and leave from SCE. Franklin complained last year about the runway before the trip to USC. For a much longer flight like that it is either stop to refuel or drive to Harrisburg and take a bigger plane. I would guess that it’s just the west coast games when the runway length and smaller plane is an issue.

Campbell certainly isn’t flashy, but he strikes me as a very good football coach, and probably would build a mentally tougher and physical program than what we’ve seen in recent seasons. However, my fear is with him we’d become a Ferentz type Iowa team that would grind out eight to ten win seasons rather than an elite program that comes close to OSU’s level. The problem is I don’t know if there is an active coach who would be almost guaranteed of doing the latter.

I’m a little intrigued by Fran Brown. I like his passion, and he seems to be able to attract some talent, even while coaching at a place like Syracuse, where it’s not the easiest place to entice people to go.

I agree 100%. I don’t know what his ceiling would be. I don’t know what ISU looks like as I don’t watch them much. All I know is he is known for fundamentals and attention to detail. Two things that I think PSU has lacked for awhile. I agree that there are no guarantees, especially if you take out the guys who may make long runs in the playoffs or not be willing to leave their current situation. However, if you’re going to take a chance on someone, the money numbers for Campbell are far more palatable if it doesn’t work out.

Campbell’s offense is much more dynamic than Ferentz and who isn’t (although Campbell is only 5-5 vs Iowa) but perhaps you mean Campbell will win but not win it all?

What does their offense look like? Good WR and TE play? Didn’t they just have a WR taken pretty high in the draft? Purdy, Montgomery and Breece Hall are really good players from his program. I know they typically have a strong run game.

Other than that? That's it. All of the other names either don't want the job or will be coaching into Late January in the playoffs. The hire can't wait until then and you can't hire a coach to do nothing for a month and a half while your roster leaves.

Meanwhile every other coach in the nation is now cashing in on record setting contracts to keep them from going to Penn State, but I still can't find the coach who wants the gig.

This sounds insane but maybe just make Terry Smith the head coach regardless if we finish 3-9 or 6-6, and 6-6 is best case scenario. Not kidding...he might be the only way.
