Does Cliff G League it after this season?

I think Cliff returns for another year. The way the year ended has to left a bitter taste in his mouth. And he needs another year to work on his low post moves, ball handling and outside shot. My gut tells me he stays to finish what he set out to accomplish--Big Ten championship and NCAA bid.
If we stopped posting him up unnecessarily he wouldn’t need to worry about low post moves. Just inefficient use of a natural high ball screen lobs and dunks center.

Are you a coach? Not trying to be a smart ***. You seem to have coach observations. But I think part of Cliff’s problem on offense is when things get stagnant giving time for the double teams to come. It’s not entirely his fault.
He definitely needs to make faster decisions when he gets the ball down low. He doesn't have the touch to shoot from beyond like 2 feet out, he doesn't have the body to really bully bigger big men, and he doesn't have the handle to makes moves around them. So it would be a big benefit if he could assess alot more quickly whether he's got a chance for the dunk or not - too many times he gets it, tries to back a guy down, gets doubled and throws up a bad hook shot or misses the dunk.

I figured I'd look at Cliff's numbers on the Torvik site for the year, I thought they would be better but it is definitely not G League worthy compared to even our own team.

Top 6 Torvik teams, around the rim shooting %
Houston 68 1%, Alabama 61.2%, 1000+ 3pt attempts 33.8%
UCLA 62.4%, Tenn 62.8%
UConn 64.0%, Purdue 63.5%

Our Team 464-789, 59%
At the rim or within 5 feet
Cam 40-56 71.4%
**Cliff 146-229 63.8%, 76-82 89% dunks**, **70-147 47.6% nondunks,
29-102 28.6% midrange, 2pt FGs 175-331 52.9%, 4-22 3pt**
Mag 40-59 67.8%
Caleb 49-75 65.3%
Woolf 29-38 76.3%

Outside of dunks, Cliff from 2pt range is shooting 99-249 39.8% from the 5 spot is not great or even good, it's pretty subpar.

Three lowest % at the rim this year
Paul 48-96 50%
Hyatt 45-91 49.5%
Derek 53-104 51%, but got much better as the season went on. He's a guard compared to Paul and Hyatt have Forward bodies.

You know who was a master of that? Hakeem. Not comparing the two in any way, but as he developed, he was incredible at anticipating the double team and either passing out of it or executing his spin move or fadeaway.

He has one? I always remember Pete Newell’s Big Man Camp being the big thing in the 80s and 90s.
Newell's Camp was a big thing back then. I actually wrote a letter to Bannon once asking if he knew how much Newell's camp cost and could an alum pay to send Tenys there without it being an NCAA violation. Boy, Wenzel and Bannon had some real unskilled big men back then. Weiler and Clark were probably the best of the lot. GO RU!!

I really thought Tenys had potential and showed some flashes, but Bannon really trashed his confidence and never could figure out the best way to play to his strengths.

It's co-written by Swen Nater for an added bonus!
Nater wrote the best basketball coaching book I've ever read:
You Haven't Taught Until They Have Learned: John Wooden's Teaching Principles and Practices
and I've read a bunch of them

Wooden's , "“Be quick but don’t hurry”, is my favorite teaching/coaching phrase of all time. And, I couldn't stand UCLA when I was a kid (they won ALL the time!). GO RU!

Thankfully, I missed that run. I remember it ending sort of during the 1976 final four vs. IU. Some think IU would've won in 1975 too if Scott May didn't get hurt during the year. That was a really good team both years and they had to get through Marquette in the regional final who wound up winning it in 1977.

May not be exactly word for word but my favorite, might be Wooden, might be Nater, is:
If you're told a player something a hundred times and they're still not getting it, it isn't the player who is the slow learner

Do I recall correctly a CJ Group 4 Final, Franklin vs. a pretty good Middletown South team (a Benbrook (sp) their star?) and you guys and Roy had a pretty good game? One of the first times I read about Roy. When he ended up at Rutgers he became one of my (and everyone's) favorites. He had a game once at the RAC for the ages against WVU that I saw in person. WVU is never a bunch of shrinking violets...they wanted no part of Hinson. Great memories...GO RU!
Good game but lost… beat tough Trenton in overtime before that. They were undefeated and good we had won 18 straight.

He should work on his upper body strength and his drop step during the off season - and play for RU next year.

That's a lot of shortcomings you point out.
