I'm getting the sense this is really no bueno.

its no good because they are now giving the committee a reason to either send them to Dayton or leave them off entirely. There are teams getting wins to punch their ticket of late. Its not good that there are some other Big 10 bubbles out there

Let's be honest, even if we limp into the tournament (which at this point, just save me the money I would spend taking my family to go) this team is going to be a 1 and done anyway. We have played like garbage the entire month. I would say onto football season but that team is a got dam train wreck going no where in 2023.

agree, this is not the kind of team you spend money on.

There's no issue with the NCAAs, the seeding will be a 10 or 11 instead of an 8.

Beyond that, enough with the player bashing, we have eyes and can see the deficiency in plain sight. There is no recruiting issue if you have an mobile guard bolted to the bench, when you are being pressed.

It's not Mulcahys fault.....you don't ask Cliff to break a press as a dribbler......and you don't ask a wing player, to be a point guard against pressure. He's not a point guard, but that's on Pike not playing Simpson late or carving out the proper role and development through the season.

Onto Northwestern and I'd still rather have the PSU win on the road. That win still counts folks, don't get bent out of shape about tonight's game.

Derek Simpson, not Caleb McConnell, not Paul Mulcahy is the best option to handle the ball and break pressure.

Take this game or last minute debacle and file it away. The larger question is for RU.

What happens when and if a team brings pressure, whether it's Sunday vs Northwestern or in Chicago or in the NCAAs against whomever??

What is Pikes game plan to attack a press to score....is it merely to get across half court and hope something happens??

Beyond the rest of the season, RU will absolutely need another guard this offseason, with Mulcahy back or not. Simpson, Davis and another legitimate 2-way guard is a must have.
Not Paul's fault?!?!

No one asked cliff to break the press as a dribbler. Wtf are you talking about? Lol

We didn't need Mag in this game to win. Though, having Mag in this game would have yielded better defense at the 4 than we got all game.

We never play in your face perimeter D. The long 3 is a shot that’s always there and normally we’re okay with it. We shut down the interior game instead. Nobody is going to hit 3s at the rate Minny hit at during that last minute even wide open over the course of a whole game. There was one minute to go. In order to have any chance, Minny needed to hit 3s to chip away at the lead. All we had to do we trade fouls with them to wind down the clock.

The bid is not in jeopardy because of this game. Seeding takes a hit.
you cannot say that when 4 Q3 losses are on the resume...if RU loses the next 2...yes they are in serious trouble...they can still make it but anyone declaring its a lock is talking out of their *** about it. Could happen but might now

ESPN talking about what a damaging loss this is during a break in the UCLA game.

We shut down the interior game? They went 15-30 from 2P range (50%)

I have no confidence in this team beating Northwestern with their asses on the line Sunday night and when we lose that game, they will limp into the B1G tournament and if they lose that game you can go buy your NIT tickets. Enjoy.

I don’t think we’re a lock even with a NW win. Are you really certain we could absorb a neutral loss to a team like Nebraska or OSU now?

I said earlier that a loss here would be an RU under achievement and from that point on, no one should complain about our
big ten tourney placement or that in the NCAA if we are so fortunate to make

No complaining about that going forward , at least by me
At least now, no one should complain about the OSU loss anymore. The way we’ve gagged this season up is on this groups shoulders alone.

EVERYONE IN THE COUNTRY IS GOING TO HEAR ABOUT HIS GAME INCLUDING THE COMMITTEE

ITS NOT A LOSS TO A 13-17 TEAM. ITS A LOSS TO A 7-20 TEAM THAT LOST 12 IN A ROW

EMBARRASSING FOR THE PROGRAM
Agreed. It’s a dagger to the program. Bac, I fear the fall out will be far reaching such as to top notch talent in the future not willing to commit IN WRITING to play here. There is player rot on the roster which needs to be excised with a meat cleaver. Is Pike with his 10 year contract willing to do what is necessary? Stay tuned.

I’m starting to have doubts about Steve’s future here. The singing of Africa was all I needed to see he has no control over this locker room. Ace will decommit shortly and we will be back to eddie Jordan days
I don't think it's that bad, although you will probably not want to hear that song for a while.

I still expect to see your team in the NCAA's...

;3 Q3 losses and a Q4 loss to one of the worst teams in power 6 conference basketball...and it will turn into a Quad 3 loss so its a hideous 4 Q3 losses...its a MAJOR RED FLAG on the resume as well as RUs horrific non conference sos of 312

No reason for recap

A comedy of errors

Completely on captains mainly Paul Mulcahy but also Caleb yet again missing a foul shot at the end of the game

They deserve to lose

Give credit to Minnesota

even if RU wins a game either vs Northwestern or in Big 10 tourney, this loss will dog Rutgers

some major major reflection needed here

also I am sick and tired of how this team gets protected from criticism constantly

THEY ARE NOT IMMUNE TO CRITICISM

STOP BABYING THEM

PAUL HAS BEEN ATROCIOUS

NO ONE TALKED ABOUT HIS TERRIBLE GAME LAST TIME

AND ITS LIKE WE CANNOT TALK ABOUT THESE THINGS

I have nothing to say but they just may have pissed their entire season away
Yep, comedy of errors was the phrase I used in my thread - just so many terrible things all jam packed into a minute of futility.

I've accepted long, long ago that Paul is not a point guard.....he shouldn't be put in these high pressure levels to handle the ball and attack. If he merely takes the ball and advances it past half court, he would get fouled.

BUT.....BUT I will say again.....if you play passive offense and you are not wired to attack, you wind up overpassing the ball.....Mulcahy had NO reason to give up the ball, but he always is passive and not attacking. That is who he is as a player. It is up to the coaching staff to NOT GIVE HIM the ball in key situations against pressure.

I don't know how else to say it, but it is a ONE guard option for this current roster. And when the next team presses RU, what is the answer then?? Keep Simpson on the bench??

I'm numb right now.

As soon as McConnell missed that FT, I looked at my wife and said "we're gonna lose on a last second three". I wasn't even mad that they let them roll the ball up, just shook my head - the way the last minute of gametime had gone, it wasn't even surprising. I was resigned to the loss already at that point.

It's like we'd never seen a back court press before. smh
Something in Caleb’s head about FTs under ten seconds left.

Paul was playing poorly and making bad decisions for any player regardless of position

Cliff was never asked to break the press dribbling that's just a complete fabrication

This will be the 4th Q3 loss for Rutgers....RU will be just 11-12 in Q1/2/3

The NET is going to drop, just how much is the question. RU was 8 heading into tonight, would have stayed an 8 if they won, I need to see all the numbers tomorrow. By eyeballing RU could end up on the 10 line tomorrow they could possibly be the last 9

This team needs to lose about SIX players in offseason...THERE I SAID IT

Pike has loyalty to one particularly player who has been awful. Also he recruited so poorly we have no bench.....plus what is Pike coaching if his end game blows chunks like this
I said it last week and got jumped all over. This team needs to be turned over and more talent brought in. You are correct, 5 or 6 players need to go.

agree, to move forward with the new recruiting stars to make sure next year isnt a step back, Pike needs to hit portal offering major playing time for a senior. We have Cliff and Gavin and Mag and then alot guys coming in the following year.

Cant have stale players who do not make a difference

Cliff finally dominates a game and we blow it, If that Cliff showed up all year we would have a few more wins.

Cliff was awesome on offense tonight, though he could have been better on D, he let someone just make a layup on in him uncontested in the 2nd half

it takes a perfect thread the needle scenario for a comeback like this to happen. When the ball starts rolling though you cant stop it, you never want to start it because you cant stop it. Game was lost when we just didnt make a stop at the 3 previous possessions were were 9/10

When you defense is trash, this is what happens

We've allowed teams to shoot .500 from 2P range just 10 times in 30 games, and 4 of those have come in the last 6 games.

Game 3 - Umass-Lowell shot .500 (without McConnell)
Game 4 - Temple shot .519 (without McConnell and Mulcahy)
Game 6 - Central CT shot .500 (without Mulcahy)
Game 7 - Miami shot .571 (without Mulcahy)
Game 13 - Coppin St shot .520
Game 20 - Penn St shot .500
Game 25 - Illinois shot .611 (without Mag)
Game 26 - Nebraska shot .741 (without Mag)
Game 28 - Michigan shot .517 (without Mag)
Game 30 - Minnesota shot .500 (without Mag)

We've allowed teams to shot better than .450 from 3P range just 3 times:
Game 19 - MSU shot .545
Game 21 - Iowa shot .500
Game 30 - Minnesota shot .458
