We really need at least one of them to be able to contribute a few minutes per game when our guys are in foul trouble. And if one our Bigs is injured I shudder to think what we'd look like. Sha said Hines has a hamstring issue after having a groin issue a couple of weeks ago. Need all our Bigs healthy as playing Josh Rivera as a small-ball 5 is not a good look for us.

Look I know you think I am a shill for Mbaye but geese unless he is injured I see NO reason he can't stand in the low post with his arms up for a few minutes a game and make his presence known! Even if to save our 2 bigs from getting injured and it looks like they both are not 100% right now. Our 2 bigs need some help! Rivera is not the answer at the 5!

What makes you think that the big fella is even a partial answer? Think the coaches have an idea after watching him day after day?

Did you watch the Mbaye against George the Messiah video? What has given you any reason to believe that kid should get even one minute in a non-blowout? Couldn't defend post-ups from a 50-year old taxi driver with a potbelly who's probably 6'2 or under.

Rivera may not be the answer but Mbaye CERTAINLY isn't. And the coaching staff knows it obviously, which is why he doesn't get time. They happen to see him every day in practice, no?

If Sha thought he could help, I think he'd use him. Sha will play anyone who can play his defense how he wants. From the little I've seen of Mbaye, I don't think he's ready to play Sha's team defense.

Sha requires his Bigs to be very mobile defensively and to make good decisions on hedging, switching and recovering. It's a challenge for Payne and Hines who both have good mobility.

If Mbaye could just defend in the low post or sit in a Zone, it might be easier to play him but Sha isn't changing what's been effective to make things easier for our 5th-string Center. If one more Big gets hurt, he may have to think about it.

Mbaye does not have to be mobile. Just have out in the low post.

In case you missed it our bigs from the first game on get burned repeatedly going out beyond the foul line and switching and getting caught in no mans land while the other teams center or forward is all alone under the basket or with a smaller player. Sha are you reading this forum? Wake up!!! That is bad "D" and even worse when a big is fouling out there! This was the same issue last year too!

We need better coaching for our centers! I volunteer!!! I can teach Mbaye to be productive in a week of one on one coaching. My qualifications are simple. Street pickup hoops. Where you have to be a man in the low post.

Who knows if that video was anything but for show and NOT any indication of what Mbaye can do. I saw his high school videos and he looked completely different. He can run the floor and clog up the middle and dunk.

I think I’d rely on Holloway to make those decisions.

Sha made great decisions with the roster this year and he made bad ones the previous year. So he does make mistakes and he even admitted on more than one interview that has! So maybe not using Mbaye more is one? Especially when circumstances would indicate to give the big fellow more time on the court. Even a few minutes to get his feet wet?

Problem with Mbaye is game speed and as an ode to Slick Rock, “lateral quickness”.

You are really full of yourself and don’t understand modern basketball. Almost all teams have their centers and forwards hedge on the pick to stop easy three point shots. They take the risk that their rotation will disrupt the play and that the big guy will fet back.

And also force the star player to give up the ball!!

I thought Rivera gave us some good minutes against K State. He did nothing offensively but we don't look for offense from our centers. He held his own on the defensive end.

He did his best. But he is not a center by any stretch of the imagination. He's a undersized PF who has more game than most believe. He could give us maybe 10 MPG there as the roster is constituted because neither Dar or Fisher are really PFs.

Like Hurley said in the few quotes captured by Zagoria, “Seton Hall’s whole is so much better than the parts.” That more than anything describes this Pirate team.

I thought the same thing. He looked like he wasn’t trying and it was a staged video.

It is a small sample size but given what I've seen from Mbaye, if I have a choice, I'm taking you sight unseen over him.

That makes no sense as the centers are usually and mostly the slowest and least athletic of the 5 guys on the court and that is why we get burned all the time. The opposing coaches plan for us to be stupid at the 5 spot and have plays designed to take advantage of it. Meanwhile we seldom do that to the opposing team. I suppose you never noticed that?

Okay guys view this video and tell me he does not have game! He shows enough here to warrant some more minutes! This is 2 years or more ago so he must under Sha's teaching be even better right? if not then we have a Sha problem!

Guys, let this go. Focusing on the 15th man on the bench getting quality minutes is a foolish issue.

Mbaye is not a Big East player. He wouldn't get minutes at NJIT. Why with the season the Pirates are having are we wasting time continuously discussing a topic that has absolutely no reality to it?

It's literally only 1 person who won't let it go. You should just create a mega thread for him to rant to himself about the 15th man on the roster -- maybe he will stop hijacking other threads then?

If we stop responding it will die away.

But yes Pat, if it continues I will delete the individual posts as the conversation is ridiculous.

It’s the fascination with 7’. Was the same with Alex Gambino.
I do recall people said the same thing about Gill and he surprised when he got a shot.

This is what I feared would happen. The unduly focus on him would lead to many uncomplimentary posts about his game. I held off as long as I could before posting as I did.

Regarding Gill...those two players were in different worlds and our Trove readers will remember during his sit out year I posted how good I thought he would be. I have seen nothing close with Mbaye.

From now on any post about him playing quality minutes this year will be deleted.

Just let the subject go.
