Not that the Rant guys have any inside info but those guys made a comment that it’s very strange how many RU games Murphy has been attending lately - even ladies basketball games where there is no way RU will be competitive. They speculated that maybe he’s being courted for sugar daddy status? I have no idea what kind of relationship, if any, he has with the existing coaches but the idea that Zinn might target him (someone who has publicly supported RU as a politician and also has a lot of money) isn’t that crazy. Def something to watch.
You mean the guy who owned a Women's Soccer team & did not provide them with bathrooms or changing rooms at home games?

Listen to this sites podcast posted last night before the national championship game. The 3 site admins went over this hiring process and the priors. They even admit he struck out on multiple targets his last 2 go around for OC-DC. And many of his targets were not interested in working for Greg
This should be a huge red flag but not at Rutgers

I don’t know anything about that but I’m not sure one thing would have to do with the other. An ideal sugar daddy (especially at Rutgers) would be someone who would “get off” on power that their money could provide and drastically turning around Rutgers sports could theoretically be that power trip for someone.

No offense to the women’s soccer league, but not choosing to spend the money to provide comfortable conditions for something very few spectators (outside of the families of those players) care about would not necessarily correlate with not fitting the prototype for the above ego infusion.

Brian and Steve did make a good point. What on earth could otherwise be the motivation for Murphy (or anyone really whose not an alum or has a relative or personal friend on the team) to show up for the recent Maryland women’s basketball game obliteration?

Tem Lukabu is a name that might be in play
He coached under Schiano at Rutgers and Tampa Bay , fitting Greg's MO of bringing in those who, worked with before
Tem was BC's DC when Hafley was HC there
Getting him away from Jacksonville Jags might be a problem , he's their LB coach .

Re podcasters

Recall their absolute declaration that Ireland Brown was starting center--and that Tariq Francis not athletic enough to score in B10 and was a modern day Bullock.

The idea their take is gospel and they somehow know about the inner workings of the coaching search but couldn't know who the starting center was at the kickoff time of the opening game should give all some perspective.

But that guy straightened out that mess renaming the club and moved its home games to the professional Red Bull arena in Harrison, NJ, which has professional-level facilities, a significant upgrade from the previous field at Rutgers University.
Also his wife took an active, hands-on role in club activities, becoming the team chair to drive major changes.
When him and his wife bought Sky Blue FC the couple lost more than $5 million on the club over the years, including over $500,000 in 2016.
Now under his leadership the team reached a $40 million valuation. As of late 2025, Gotham FC was valued at $110 million ,ranking as one of the most valuable women's teams in the world

In the it must be nice department: that man said: his investment was not driven by a desire for a "quick financial windfall," but rather to support women's sports and show his daughter that soccer is not just a men's sport.

Been thinking the same thing, something is up with him being at the games

Some talk he could join Hafley in Miami. NFL guys also don't seem as interested in college these days, with how ridiculous it's all gotten. Lukabu is always a name we hear, yet never seems to materialize.

yes they've been wrong about a lot of things but you can't really fault them, they are working int he information provided. the fault lies in the people that take what they say as gospel with little to no critical thinking of their own. Mods are doing the best job they can imho; not always right, but always trying to do their best

I;m sure she's watching Steve Pikiell and Coquese Washington as well.
Seeing all 3 programs not producing good results would have her thinking about change and looking at which one
is first on the list.
As for DC hunt deciding Greg;s fate , W-L record and direction Keli feels it is going will be the main reason Schiano and the others stay or go. ( depending if Zinn is allowed to buyout one or all .)
As big if not more of an issue is him being in the same position last year, hiring not one but two duds, then having to pay them both out a year later. You can slice this in a few different ways but it’s glaringly obvious now. Greg just can’t get it done.

AD Zinn is most certainly paying attention. She has her hands all over the department, including football. Greg is on the clock.

we definitely don't want that. He's not anywhere near as good as the narrative

At this point, even if the outcome isn’t good, at least it’s free. I don’t want to pay a Robb Smith. This is a do or die season for Greg so if he’s going to bust, may as well not have to pick up the tab on an additional contract. I’d rather him do it himself unless he can hire someone legitimate for this reason.

reasonable post and difficult to argue against. He's so involved regardless, does it really matter. I 'think' he's going to announce someone junior and take partial codc type role.

100%
all the public assurances and 'right' things said are just surface dressing. Greg is NOT secure despite what some think. If fails next year akin to this, we're looking for a new coach whether publicly or privately. Football drives the bus, no other sport matters in the grand scheme of things.

Just wondering when the time will run out.
For WBB it needs to be right after this season is over.
MBB the same if the team doesn't have a winning season and next year defenitky change if the team don't make it to the Dance.
I would put Greg in jeopardy after this season is complete if the team doesn't have a winning season.
But Zinn knows Rutgers isn't in LSU's class when it comes to buyouts, so Schiano might last longer than she wants
because dumping him at the end of this season would cost around $15&1/2 mil (2027 $9.3 mil)

Pikiell's buyout in April will be $9mil ( $7 mil April of 2027)

Washington's $500,000 is the one that can be handled and I expect it will sometime this April
Finding the money to pay Greg and Steve off will be the problem and reason they last longer than wanted by her.

Schiano would end up somewhere at over $2 mil per year so it does help and Pike would end up somewhere as well. And if we can get an up and coming coach to come in and crush it because they understand the portal and NIL- they would only get $3-4 mil for each of their first couple of years. I don’t think we would replace GS with a sought after P4 guy

Shows how great it is to be a politician & suddenly turn a loser into a multi million dollar windfall

Actually might show how good a businessman he is .
Hopefully he'll become actively involved with the Rutgers Athletic Department and work with Tate and Zinn to bring the best coaches to the Banks and help Rutgers to be able to afford them by soliciting NY Metro Area Businesses to become involved in making RU the place to play

No one wants to work for Schiano. How much more clear does it have to be to some of you. He's either going to be the DC, he's going to have to overpay for some low level position coach to take the job, or he's getting a retread.

Basically the same position he was in last year, and will be again next year if he has a job.
Wrong. We don’t have the $$ for good defensive players. We are spending our money on offense. That’s why Rob Smith, that’s why we stunk on D, and that’s why we don’t have a DC.

NiL and staff come from 2 separate budgets. Also we brought in more defensive players last year on the portal and spent more on them than any offensive players.

We have guys on defense last year that were good enough for some really good P4 teams and getting their money now. Last years defense is 100 on coaching
