to wring my hands over the situation either. We will give it our best shot and if that isn't enough then we move on with Hudspeth because Diaz will probably go with him to that destination. Hoping for the best.

So if he is interested in making a jump to any 'big time' program, that will always be a possibility. Just a matter if this is the one he wants.

So as of late Monday Mullen said he hasn't talked with Miami and then early this morning somehow Bo Bounds has sources that say Miami talked to Mullen? I seriously doubt it. I think right now everything Bo Bounds says should be discredited. Wasn't he calling us a bad team and thin every where? He's a joke. I wouldn't buy into it. He's prolly just trying to see how riled up he can get us.

For our team now, with oru offense, our qB, and our schedule for next year, I'd defninetly look inward to someone on staff. I'd raarely think this, and am not 100% on it now, but I think we are in a unique situation. Next year could be special.

Thoughts?

Desmond Howard said this about Miami on College Football Live yesteraday:<div>1. Miami is a good job but not a great job by any means</div><div>2. Their facilities are not top notch, no what you would expect, pretty good but not great</div><div>3. Their stadium is 30 to 40min away from their campus</div><div>4. Their fan base is pretty weak, they are bandwagon fans. Unless your top in the conf or in the national polls the fans won't come</div><div>5. Good area for recruiting</div><div>
</div><div>I dunno why Mullen would go there. He did a good job firing up our fan base. Miami's won't be like ours. Recruiting is the only thing they have on us there. Seriously guys I wouldn't worry about Miami. Bo Bounds is an idiot.</div>

Plus, don't schools typically go through the AD first before talking to a coach?

Maybe a certain beat writer should be asking Stricklin if any schools have asked for permission to speak with Mullen as of today...

if Mullen goes (if offered, I believe he will), then we need to offer Diaz IMMEDIATELY, and have him jump all over the recruits IMMEDIATELY.

If he leaves this early, without us at least giving him some caysh, Stricklin will be labeled as worse than Templeton.

Promote Chris Wilson to full defensive coordinator and hire a good young offensive coordinator.

It's always going to be a possibility that someone snatches Dan away. It only means that we're winning, so I guess we can't be too upset. I just hope Stricklin keeps a short list of candidates at arm's length like Byrne said he did.<div>
</div><div>Potential Candidates this year I'd settle for in no particular order:</div><div>
</div><div>Malzahn</div><div>Hudspeth</div><div>Diaz</div><div>Leach</div><div>Sumlin</div><div>Whittingham</div><div>

very effective recruiter. He ran his own version of the spread with very good results a N. Alabama I believe. We won't have to look far to find our new coach if and when we need to. I think Hud knows this and it is one of the reasons he didn't interview for the ULL job. It may not be this year but it is just a matter of time with Dan because the guy can flat out run a program and we are lucky we discovered him because he has turned us totally around and I am extremely thankful for that fact. Dan Mullen is a very demanding coach, much in the line of Saban in the way he approaches his assistants so Hud sticking around speaks volumes to me but of course I could be wrong.

For the record I don't think Dan goes to Miami. I think he goes in a couple of more years to Florida, LSU, Penn State, Michigan or a progam that is similar. With that said, Miami is one hell of a nice place especially if someone is putting 3 million a year in your pocket to enjoy it. We must remain realistic that great coaches have options and Dan Mullen is not a home grown product of MSU.

But next year's potential openings are limitless....Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Notre Dame. And yes, I realize a couple of those may be a stretch, but much better opportunities and traditonal campuses and fan bases.

and is willing to do everything he can to keep Mullen.

Read 2HD's latest blog and his Football Notebook. Stricklen is quoted as saying that if Mullen leaves, it won't be about money. Toquote Scott:
<div style="BORDER-RIGHT: medium none; BORDER-TOP: medium none; OVERFLOW: hidden; BORDER-LEFT: medium none; COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: medium none; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; TEXT-ALIGN: left; TEXT-DECORATION: none">
<font color="#ff0000">"I'm not someone who thinks that finances are ever going to be a part of a decision on whether a coach stays or not," Stricklin said. "I think we've got a lot to offer as a university, and we've got access to talent - we're in the best league in the country. We have great facilities, we're in the process of making them better. We've got great support for our coaches and student-athletes.

"I don't know if there's ever been a coach leave Mississippi State because they weren't being paid enough, and I doubt there ever will be."
</font>
That being said, I just don't see Mullen going to Miami. However, if he does, you can almost guarantee that he'll take Manny with him.

I suspect that 2 years ago, Peterson thought the plan was for Boise and Nevada to join the MWC and for that conference to get an automatic BCS bid. Now, with TCU, Utah, and BYU gone, he probably realizes that will never happen. He might be a lot more willing to leave Boise now.

...certainly a change from the Crooms error.

There's obviously no doubt that it is way easier to win big at Miami than at MSU, but I don't know that I'd consider Miami a top 5-10 college job. I hope Dan sticks with us at least a while longer.

Miami hasn't contacted any coaches atleast a week away from that phase and Mullen is not in the top 5. It's like if a mouse farts and it sounds like Mullen everyone freaks out and a thread is immediately started. Calm the 17 down.

I would say almost all but Michigan are a stretch. Mack Brown had one bad year and his replacement is in place in Muschamp. Kelly went 7-5 this year at ND with tons of injuries and they beat USC. He's not going anywhere. Florida...seriously? Urban will leave when he's ready to leave and Mullen will be the guy Urban goes after. I honestly think Florida is our number one threat and Georgia, but I don't think Richt is shown the door for at least 2 more years. He's got a fantastic young QB to work with who was just a FR in the SEC. How many FR are successful in the SEC? Not many. Richt is fine, UGA will be back next year. Florida is who we need to look out for. Not worried about Miami at all.

MSU is building around Dan Mullen. We're basically giving him anything he wants. Our fans have showed him excellent support, we're about to expand, he's about to get a raise, he's getting good recruiting, his family loves Starkville, he has a strong say in the Athletic Dept, and our AD has his back no matter what! What could Miami do for their coach? Their stadium is 30 or 40min away from campus! If they started on a stadium now it would probably take at least 3years to build I'm guessing. I doubt Mullen would take that. He's about to be making over 2mil a year and if our Athletic Dept is really smart he will make slightly more than Nutt.

than Starkville and Miami, FL to raise a family. If that is REALLY the kind of living environment he prefers then he wouldn't be with us long anyway. I just don't think that's the case though especially from the feeling I get with his wife.

Dans work here is not yet complete ... at this point, some cynics could still say this year was a fluke...but after 3 or 4 years of success it becomes a pattern and very hard to discredit ... that is when we need to start the worry wagon and by then, our revenue should be higher than what it is now and we will be in a position to pay him accordingly or at least offer a decent counter-offer
