Hudspeth spent one year in D1 football, and that was as OC at Navy. The won ZERO games that year. Jim Tressell, everyone's icon of why hiring from the lower division can work, spent six years as a D1 assistant, and three of those were with Ohio St. In his stint at Youngstown, not only did he win four national championships, but he also served as athletic director for six years. The plus side to Hudspeth's lower division coaching career was a hell of an offense one year at Delta St. as the OC, and a bunch of wins at UNA. I like him on the staff, probably as an OC. Not ready to coach a D1 program right now, though.
Diaz has been involved in D1 football since 1998. The last five as defensive coordinator. He began as a grad assistant working with Mickey Andrews and was part of a national championship team. He spent four years at NC State. The last two he coached safeties and special teams and those defenses finished first and eighth in the nation. He then spent four years at MTSU as DC.
I take the guy, who on paper, has much more D1 experience. Dan Mullen had never been a head coach, but had spent years as an assistant at successful programs. Diaz is more like Mullen than Hudspeth. I go with Diaz.
If you still want it on paper I can fax this to you.
