This story doesn't denigrate UCLA's program, it indicts Kentucky's program and people like Seth Greenberg who hold Kentucky's program as the ideal for college athletics.
Presumably in a sport that that has lost almost any sense of integrity, UCLA has just a little more than one year and out teams like Kentucky and Duke, or teams with academic scandals like UNC. Given the sorry state of college basketball, it is unlikely that teams like UCLA, that pay at least some attention to academic integrity, will be competitive.
The last sentence should read: " Does Seth Greenberg think Kentucky's priorities should be the norm?'"
If the NCAA thinks Kentucky's level of lavish spending on one sport is fine, that explains a lot, not only about college sports, but about a society with misplaced values. John Wooden's salary at UCLA was $35,000 when he retired.
Compared to Wooden, Calipari is a carnival barker.
[laughing]
Fact: Only losers talk about misplaced priorities in college sports. No one bitches when they're winning.
