Certainly glad he did, but the whole defiant "Zero percent chance. ZERO! Did you hear me -ZERO! MEANS ZERO, DAMMIT" somehow changed in a mere 8 hours.

Thankfully.

Technically he didn’t walk away, just like he said. He stuck around to get fired so he could collect. We are gonna be paying hi not coach a whole lot of money so let’s not act like he did us a whole lot of favors

Sure. It was funny that at the end of his rant, he quietly added "now I can't control what they do . . ."

Stoops making $1 million more than Stein per year and doesn't have to get out of bed. Pretty damn solid work.

I get this but I look at it like we were paying him 9M per year so for 2M more to the budget we actually have a chance to be an energized and exciting brand of football.

- As fun as going back to college seems, I remember my last semesters and I couldn’t wait to get out of college and in the “real world”.

Then I think of guys like Calzada, Pavia and Max Johnson who are 7 year QBs that transferred 3-4 times each and not knowing the ins and outs of each campus, having left behind buddies and meeting new people, dealing with classes transferring etc etc and I wonder what is going through their minds as they face a final semester with plenty of money in hand and the sad reality that football is over.

The eternal optimist in me when it comes to UK basketball yearns to believe Pope can turn this team around. But even for me it is a really hard thought to swallow. Unfortunately we won't really know after tonight because blowing out Dick St U's hasn't been the problem.

I think we have a good shot tonight. Optimistic.

While most of the shopping for Christmas I do online, I enjoy pretending to go shop, then proceed to a long lunch at a local watering hole. Little pleasures.

That said, saw a Reel where a bar owner does not allow people soloing into their bar. Comments led to these people start more fights, bother patrons, lean in on others conversations. My take, there is always a time and place to go solo. Dive or neighborhood pub, any time. Daytime, anywhere.

-only physically shop the small stores. A lot of fun this time of year especially.

-Taylor Swift was not on our Top 5 this year. In 0.0001% of population, apparently.

-pendulum swing to football focus in December was not anticipated but it’s here for me. Season likely not favorable in results but there’s juice again. Looking forward to how the roster fills out over next couple months

-Impromptu trip to Newport to help out with a buddy’s East Row house holiday tour last weekend. A blast. Need to frequent more. Didn’t bang Wynn’s wife tho. Next time

-Marshmallow World always slaps.

-Ayoh! Giardiniera Mayo sounds disgusting on first glance but good gravy it’s terrific.

-Go Cats?

Does anyone else find it weird that this was just released a couple hours ago on the CBS College Basketball YouTube channel? It is a preseason puff piece. Really odd timing, unless I am missing something.

Only purchase for Christmas I made this year, bought my 8 year old grandson a Hammerhead Mudcat go-kart. Man these things have improved since I was a youngster. Electric start, 208cc (6.5 HP engine), LED dual headlights, reverse mechanism, canopy top, and the biatch even has a horn. He has a older go-kart that stays broke down more than it runs. He told me "G-Daddy, I need a new go-kart". Yes my grandkids call me "G-Daddy", grand dad makes me sound too damn old. Can't wait to see the look on his face when he sees it. Why we do this.

I mean weve absolutely beat the **** out of non-major teams, I guess I can give Pope that. No Evansville specials like Cal seemingly every year.

Garrison needs to be dismissed from the team. Drop this down to a 7 man rotation, see if Lowe and/or JQ can play and roll with it.

Good for Pope benching Williams. We need more, not less of that. I would feel a lot better if I heard him drop an eff bomb on TV, too.

If you wanna spread the floor this group right now can do it.

Id like to see jasper play with lowe, oweh, jelavic and williams/chandler/noah. Again you take your lumps but there is your potential at consistent shooting/spread.

Joe Tipton : “The odds have never been lower for Kentucky to land someone in recruiting than this year”

Not sure if this an actual quote but Justin Rowland quoted it. If so, it’s alarming. Thought we were gonna get Stokes in early fall, now he’s hooping on the northwest and Oregon was right in there with him.

I really thought with the supposed brand of offense that Pope ran and the amount of funding he would have at his disposal that he would kill it on the trail. He either can’t connect with these kids on a personal level or something. It will end up being his downfall here if he isn’t able to recruit the best players (obvious I know)

Can someone explain the JMI thing to me like I’m a hick from Jessamine county? Iirc, we paid more in NIL than anybody else, and yet we can’t land good players bc of NIL? What am I missing here?

My understanding in general terms is that if 5/3 Bank wanted to offer an NIL deal they can’t because Central Bank is an official JMI sponsor. I don’t keep up with KSR much anymore but I feel like this was an issue with KSBar and autograph signings in season, those had to stop because Malones/Drakes is the official restaurant of UK Athletics.

The implication is that no other school has a limited pool of sponsors that have signed a deal with a 3rd party.

That makes sense, but Kentucky still overpaid every other team this past season, correct? Like we missed on Wilkerson bc we got outbid - how did that happen if we have the most money? Is mark pope and his staff just really bad at allocating money? Is this just a completely separate issue?

I'm not an expert and this could be somewhat wrong, but close enough for message board purposes.

My understanding is that all schools have the ability to revenue share the $21M and split it how they want among the programs. UK Basketball may get more than most SEC schools but it is still a percentage of a fixed pie. The real money for kids is in legitimate NIL advertising deals, because that doesn't get counted as part of the rev share.

UK Basketball is one of the few programs that can offer legitimate nationwide and lucrative local deals, so presumably we should be able to have a great NIL package to sell. Remember, there is a supposedly neutral accounting firm that audits these deals to make sure they are really advertising deals, and not just offbooks compensation.

By limiting the available advertisers for NIL money, JMI is putting JMI's interests above UK Basketball -- which is the exact thing everyone was worried about to begin with.

Edit: Also, to specifically answer why (at least from what limited info there is) things are different this year -- that's because it is the first year the collective bargaining agreement goes in place. We may not be offering a Kentucky premium if JMI is limiting NIL deals to a handful of select customers.

Sounds like something that ought to be openly disclosed to the public to me!

Quick scan of ESPN top 100 players of Class of 2026. I know it’s not the be all end all ranking or list, but 81 of top 100 have already signed. 6 of the top 10 are still open and have heard UK mentioned for 3. Stokes, Collins and Holt.
That’s it.
That’s very concerning.
